Sorbitol, etc.

I have a question re Sorbitol and the other sweetners that are now being used in Atkins low carb items. I recently read an article that said a person should limit their intake of these sweeteners to 24 grams per day. That if you eat more than that it might prevent you from losing weight. Has anyone heard of this? Thanks!
