Default Whey Gourmet and hidden calories

I have a question,
wondering if I am just doing something wrong or....

Any Whey Gourmet people out there?

I entered the Dark Chocolate Mousse Whey Gourmet into the hidden carbs counter and was not thinking the results are correct:

120cal
Fat 1.8
Protein 21
Carb 4.3

entered into hidden carbs under dairy and eggs comes up with:

Carb 3.69
Fat 8.82671
Protein 4.28361

with diff by weight of -0.61...

so is this correct? Does it mean it really only has 4.2 g of protein.. this cant be ..

anyone help?
thanks
d

Hiya deze,

I'm not sure quite what you put into the hidden carb counter, but I think you can believe the protein count on the label.

The other way (apart from using the Hidden carb Counter) to look for hidden carbs is to just do the sums yourself.
1g fat has approx 9 cals, 1g protein & carb each have approx 4.
So adding the figures you gave comes to 117.4 cals which is near enough to the given 120 for you to know there are no hidden carbs.

Feel better?

hiya J,

Carb 3.69
Fat 8.82671
Protein 4.28361

Those are the calorie factors for each nutrient in the particular food group ... and have been calculated by the USDA as a standard. So, in this case for Dairy and Eggs .. the calculation used is 3.69 calories per gram of carb, 8.89627 calories per gram of fat, and 4.28361 calories per gram of protein ... I'm not exactly sure how they come up with the values, but it has to do with water content and bioavailability.

If you'd entered it as a different food group, say .. Snacks, the values would be

Carb 3.94354
Fat 8.62427
Protein 3.28780

As a general rule, the lowcarb protein shake mixes don't have hidden carbs. It's the "lowcarb" bars and sugar-free candy that may not have carbs such as sugar alcohols or glycerine declared on the label.

I've had Whey Gourmet before .. Creamy Caramel Dip is good and Strawberry Banana Smoothy.

Hi Doreen,
thanks for the clarification on that, I was wondering where the numbers came from, and what the criteria was behind the difference in the calculations from the different categories.

maybe I will just haveta go have me a whey gourmet!!
