This video is really good. I didn't "watch it", just listened to it in the background. It is very long, so I listened to it in shorter segments.

Sugar is rat poison.

It's in almost everything processed.

I tell myself this daily.

Yeah, it's a good one by someone well qualified to speak about nutrition (high-fructose) for a change.

I didn't agree with all he says, but his presentation is very good!

I love that educated intelligent people are talking about this. Some of the oints he raised about how studies were interpreted are the same points Gary Taubes brought up in his book. The more the merrier...

Thanks Nancy! After watching this, I convinced my non-low carb, non-paleo 8 year old to choose white milk over chocolate at school lunches at least twice a week. We'll see. Poor little guy has my genes, so I worry.

A header in the first few seconds says:

Current Controversies in Nutrition: Letting Science be the Guide.

So, we *shouldn't* let science and research guide knowledge in human nutrition? That's confusing to me!

That's marvelous, but did we really need a 1 hour + movie to tell us sugar is bad for us?

At the very least we know that the sugar in fruits is not a horrendous trade off.

The problem is that "research" done is not unbiased -- the funding is coming from places that want the food pyramid confirmed as correct. It's interesting (and appalling) some of the conclusions that come out of these studies.

You know, our food has changed dramatically over the past 30 years. Corn and soy in everything, meat for the most part being mass produced, GMO crops and governments pushing the idea that a diet high in grains is healthy -- and as a result we're getting fatter. Yet instead of looking at our food supply and diet recommendations, we're blaming the fat people.

You know, if it were as easy to lose weight as eat less, exercise more, there wouldn't be so many fat people. And there wouldn't be so many more fat people than there were 30 years ago.

One good point he made that really struck me is "our kids don't want to be fat."

He also brought up the sugar, uric acid, gout and high blood pressure connections. I was just asked this weekend by a concerned friend "how come you don't have gout eating all that meat everyday?" I told him "I don't, but, I don't know why." Well, now I believe I do.

I watched the whole thing. Yum. It's a great. However, he also takes a couple of swings at fat and misses. I loved that he found something else that Ancel Keys conveniently omitted from his infamous papers - I was excepting to hear "But he didn't include all the data that was available at the time - he cherry picked" but I didn't hear that. Instead I had to wind back the "tape" to listen again. Hitler, Keys, Robert Mosses -- I hope they're all having a good time together.

Tee hee! That's probably how a good portion of the people think!

Dr. Davis wondered if this means they'll start taking off the "Heart Smart" logo on foods like Captain Crunch now. Har, har!

I think they already did. Was picking up a box yesterday for my family and I saw no AHA symbol. Just some "My Plan" logo or something cheesy like that.
