Default Healthy Selfishness by the Hellers

Hey all,
I posted a message to my friend Eno about this book. I am home this summer recouping from a belt lipectomy. I am a big reader anyway and decided to research all of the low carb books I can find as a way of expanding my knowledge, staying motivated, and keep myself from going stark raving crazy from cabin fever. It hasn't even been three weeks since the surgery and I'm already getting antsy! I got WAY too excited about a trip to Walmart on Saturday. How's about helping me out and writing me!

Anyway, due to my type 1 diabetes, I can't adhere to the CAD/CALP plan in the traditional sense, but I have done some Princess Sara adaptations...I am VLC for the most part but occasionally allow myself a "reward meal" of higher low carb foods. Does that make sense?

Today, I am beginning the book, "Healthy Selfishness." I am excited about it because learning to be "selfish" has turned out to be an essential component in my recovery from food addiction, alcoholism, and obesity. Have any of you read this?

First of all, I love your sass! You have such a fun, positive attitude!

I have not read this book but will certainly look into it now that you mentioned it!

Your stats are inspirational and I am going to eagerly check out your journal--right now!

I hope your recovery is a quick one and that the cabin fever doesn't make you insane! hehehe

Have a super fabulous LC day!

Hi Sara-
I have read the book- I think it is really important to take care of your SELF- so it is a good read. Another new book out is by Judith (I think that is her name) Beck- it is a book caled Think yourself Thin (maybe- I am bad with titles). It is all about cognitive therapy techniques for weight. And another one I want to read is the one by the woman on Oprah about maintaining.
I find Dr. Bernstein's books to be so inspirational- and I know you like him too.
Because of your Type !, I don't know how CALP would fit.

Thanks for writing me!

"Sass." How diplomatic of you...let's just go ahead and say it, I'm a smart a$$!!!

I have to admit that I do not do a good job with my online journals. I have long been one to keep a personal journal---I associate journals with the totally crazy side of ourselves that we secretly put down on paper. Periodically I burn mine. I would hate for someone to find them after I'm gone and be horrified!!! I think that would be worse than finding home-made porn tapes! (I'm not admitting to anything---this is just hypothetical!!!) Your best bet of getting "my story" is to read the threads I start.
Thanks for writing. I'll post about the book as it moves to the front of my brain.

I'm not sure about the Think Yourself Thin book. I have read, and loved!, The Four Day Win, but Martha Beck. She has a regular column in Oprah's Magazine. I did a book study with a group on another forum. It ended up going all over the place, but proved VERY helpful in my maintenance.

I got the name of the Judith Beck book wrong- I think it is the Beck Diet Solution- 2007 by Judith Beck.
