Question anyone hypothyroid?

Is anyone out there hypothyroid? Do you find it hard to lose even on this WOE? I was diagnosed about a year ago and finally got my numbers right about 2 months ago. I have heard from people that even though their thyroid was functioning "normally" on meds, they still had a real hard time losing. That is so discouraging. But, I suppose slow losing is better than no losing.

Thanks in advance to all you "losers" out there!

Cimart

Default hypothyroid

Hi Cimart,
I'm hypo and have been on 0.075 levothyroxine for 8 years now. I lost 25 lbs on Atkins last year no problem, except that I slipped and regained it all. So, yes you can lose. I asked my endocrinologist if it could make me have a weight problem and he said no, not now that I'm on medication. (I never really believed him.) But then again, that doesn't really help matters -- to not believe him. I say, ask your endocrinologist. Keep the faith, and good luck,

Thumbs down hypothyroid

Hi Cimart

I'm hypothyroid too, I was diagnosed about 13 years ago. I was 20 kilos overweight by the time the docs finally figured out was wrong. It took 12 months to get my dose right, and in those months I gained another 20 kilos.
I have been on low fat low cal high carb diets ever since, didn't lose one single pound, then in the last 18 months or so I've put on another 20 kilos
I had blood tests a few weeks ago, and although my dose has to be increased a bit, the main thing that showed up was that my liver enzymes were highly elevated. if your liver isn't functioning you can NOT loose weight.
I put myself on a low carb diet, and I just can not believe it - i'm finally loosing weight. This diet really works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck lowcarbing, and you are absolutely right about losing weight slowly - slow and steady wins the race
bye
Kaye
