Default What kind of yogurt?

I just returned from the store looking for a low carb yogurt. They all have CARBS. What kind do yaw'll eat? I would appreciate any suggestions. I love dairy products and thought I could eat yogurt.
Thanks,
Pattie

What does Sugar Busters say about eating yogurt? Most people following Atkins or PP don't usually eat yogurt but you'll find the odd eater here and there.

You can make your own out of whipping cream.

Plain yogurt-whole milk is around 12 carbs per cup. Which equates to around .75 carbs per tablespoon so not really a no no if you want to make say.....salad dressings, dipping sauce for veggies.

Don't be too quick to rule things totally out of your diet

Me personally I hate the taste and texture of yogurt, but it does make a nice change for salad dressings.

Actually, Agony, it's much lower than that assuming you can get natural yoghurt with two active cultures in it. The bacteria feed on the lactose, thereby pre-digesting the sugars in the milk. You can subtract 8g carbs per cup of yogurt. I used to hate the taste of plain yoghurt but since I started LCing my tastes have changed; yoghurt with some raspberries is one of my favourite meals now

Here's a link to a discussion we had on this not that long ago:

My book and the USDA Nutrient Database for Standard Reference has it listed as 12 so I was going by that.

Guess my point was, even if something seems high in carbs when taken in moderation is perfectly fine to consume on this diet and makes a nice change of pace.

Thanks for all your help. I thought maybe there was some miracle yogurt somewhere that didn't have very many carbs. HA!
I tried the mock danish and really liked it. It made a mess in the dish though. I may try to use Pam spray in the dish next time?
Anyway, this forum is really uplifting to me.
Thanks!

There is a Blue Bunny Carb Freedom yogurt sweetened with Sucralose---6oz container has 90 calories, 5 grams carbs, 5 grams sugar 3 grams fat. I got the vanilla creme and added frozen berries. There are other flavors. It was delicious. I bought it at Super Target for 52 cents. Is this permissible on Sugarbusters? I saw Dannon sweetened with Aspartame listed in the Sugarbusters book but couldn't find it locally.

I love the Dannon Carb Control yogurt. It comes in 1/2 cup servings and is not made with sugar and uses Splenda. I just checked and each serving has 3 grams of carbs. My favorite is the raspberry.

Hood makes a low carb yogurt too that has Atkins approved on the package. I didn't like it as much as the Dannon. Dannon is very creamy.

Hope this helps!!

I recently did a "taste test" comparison of yogurts. The only one I liked was Yoplait Lowcarb but it has 8 carbs in it.

I buy "balkan style" plain full fat yoghurt all the time from different brands, they are mostly all about 5 grams of carbs per 3/4 cup serving. Otherwise I have homemade yoghurt that i make out of whole milk. It may be a little high in carbs for someone in the earlier stages of a low carb diet, but for me, which i am at about 50-60 net grams a day now its great.

If i feel in the mood to have it sweet i eat it with artificial sweetener, pure vannila extract and chopped fruit. Or I add sugar free jam to it.

I like organic plain yogurt.

My weight loss is slower than most of y'alls, but yogurt makes me feel very healthy and energetic.

Have you tried strained yougurt? It's very common here in Greece and it has only 3grams of carbs per 100 grams. I just saw that they export some variety of this yogurt in the US. If you are interested go here : http://www.fageusa.com and check the Total Yogurt. The Total 0% has only 6 grams of carbs per serving (about 150grams). You can alsobuy the famous greek tzatziki .
