Default How are you supposed to measure salad?

Are you supposed to litterally pour the salad greens into a measuring cup and measure them that way?

Are they supposed to packed or real loose?

I just don't feel like I get to eat enough veggies. Bummer.

When I first started I crammed salad greens into a measuring cup and then poured it into a bowl. Two cups mostly filled up my old whipped topping container I was using to take my lunch to work in. Add meat and dressing and my lunch was packed. After that I never measured my salad again, I can eye it and it wasn't too much greens that made us overweight in the first place.

You can really have a lot of veggies and fruits (yes, cucumber and tomato and other things on induction list are actually fruits) for your 20 carbs a day. It's the cream and the coffee and the cheese and fake foods you need to be wary off. www.fitday.com is a useful tool for figuring out how many carbs you are getting. You have to subtract your own fiber, but since it's listed under carbs at the top of the page it's pretty easy to do.

Thank you very much. I think I'll start using your idea and just use an old cool whip container until I get use to just "eyeing" it.

Thanks again and congrats on your success so far. Can't wait until my avaitor says 62%!!!

Didn't I learn this the hard way! Those late night teas with cream and a splash of da vinci's sugar free caramel syrup sure are addictive. I have to learn to limit myself in the creams and cheeses area. And that's super hard considering I've never told myself that I can't have something... guess that's what got me this size lol. It'll be a good lesson, though.

How come I keep hearing to stay away from cheese? Isn't this one of the best parts of eating low carb is having greasy yummy cheese? I looked at fitday and it said 1 cup of natural cheddar or american cheese is only 1.45 g of carbs. Isn't this one of our best sources of dietary fat and protein during the weight loss?
Someone, please clarify for me cuz I wanna buy my cheese and eat it to!

Katie, I'm with you. I eat quite a lot of cheese. I know in Atkins Induction only allows 100gms/4oz a day - not sure how much after induction as I have never made it off and I just go around and around in circles (on and off the wagon)...
Also in a lot of the low carb receipes that I use, recommends Cream - is this not allowed either....

Also, If cream is allowed - why isn't milk?????

Just a few of my hundreds of queries I encounter on a daily basis...

Hi Jaxx,

The way I understand it is this. Milk and cream are both about 4g per 100g carbs - but you don't drink glasses of cream - and it only takes a little cream to turn a coffee or tea white, whereas it takes a lot of milk.

Most cheeses are about a carb an ounce, not a cup.

Cheese can be bad for some people, good for others. Some people are especially sensitive to the hormones given to some cows and it comes through into the cheese and milk and cream.

Too much cheese can also cause um...bathroom problems.

Cream is allowed because it is higher fat and lower carb than milk.

I agree that a little cream can go a long way.

Cheese used to be a free food on Atkins. In his newer editions he limited it. Probably because people were getting stalled out eating tons of cheese.

Your Mileage May Vary.

I checked the carb counter on this site. Cream is 6.64 carbs a cup, (which can be whipped to 2 cups yum) and milk is 11 carbs per cup.

Well, checking fitday it lists chedder and American cheese at 2.64 a cup, this site lists it as 1.69. Not sure about that one.

I put in cheddar cheese and it told me that american or cheddar is 1.69 per cup...? I don't know I won't worry too much about it I'll just stick to what I know is working and if I need to I'll cut it back a little.

Great news, after day 2 of my eggs fast, I am out of my stall!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been stalled between 216 and 217.5 for the last 3 weeks and I decided to do this egg fast I found on this site under tips and stalls, after 2 days of the egg fast (nothing but eggs w/ added fat like butter or oil) I have broken the barrier and I'm at 214.5 !!!!!

WHoooohooo

I hope it stays there, to be sure I'm gonna continue with my 3rd day of egg fast and then go back to induction.
