Default Oh my God I am pregnant!

Hello low carbers,

I am very excited because today I went to lab to do a pregnancy test and it came out positive. After 13 years of trying we are finally blessed. I must confess this WOE helped me alot since before my cycles were very irregular and ever since lc i have been regular and it helped me with my fertility issues. But I have a concern I don't know if low carbing is good for pregnant ladies. So if any of you out there can offer me some insights. Thanks in advance.

I don't know the answer to your question. You probably need to talk to your doctor about that. I just wanted to say congratulations!

Congratulations!

Dr. Atkins says that you should go on maintenance levels of carbs if you are pregnant. You definitely should not be in ketosis. Of course, you should also consult with your doctor about this. No one -- pregnant or not -- needs to eat white flour, white sugar, and all the junky carbs.

Congratulations - you must be on cloud 9. Check with your Doctor, I would think a program of avoiding the white stuff at a minimum would work, but the Doc should know best.

Hi and Congrats! Someone already posted Atkins recommendations so I don't need to repeat it. CAD (Carb Addict Diet) might be something to look into as it is less restrictive than Atkins. In my early pregnancy I did CAD as much as I could to keep my blood sugar balanced. I found returning to regular eating habits just zapped my energy in the afternoons. CAD allowed me to keep my carbs up but didn't have the low energy issues as much in the afternoons. You might want to check out the threads here to see what others have done and what worked for them. I put on a total of 32 pounds during my preg, but was on restricted activity the last 6 weeks.
Congrats again and good luck!

Default Congratulations, Mommy!

First off, congratulations!! I can't imagine the excitement you and your husband are experiencing after trying for so long! The two cents that I wanted to add is that a few years ago I lost about 20 lbs. LC-ing, and then I got pregnant. It was the happiest time in my life, but I decided to completely go off of Atkins "for the baby's sake" (uh...yeah, for the baby's sake...not mine! Ha!). I gained so much weight it's not even funny AND my son weighed over 9lbs. (probably because of all of the junk I ate!). My point is that you should not in any shape or form use your pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever you want, whenever you want it, as I did! You have worked so hard to lose the weight that you have lost. My son is a year and a half old and I'm still trying desperately to get this stinkin' weight off! As was stated earlier, do NOT stay on induction, because the baby needs all of the nutrients (not junk) it can get! So, that's my experience. Hope it helped a little. Good luck to you and I pray for good health for you and baby!

Default Yaaaaaay!

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. I have 4 children, and I can't imagine my life without them. I also (indirectly) know how hard it is to struggle so long to get that positive test result. some friends of mine finally gave up and adopted 2 boys, then, 13 years later coincidentally, she got pregnant! She wasn't on birth control, because, supposedly, couldn't get pregnant! They now have a beautiful young lady in the family as well. My brother and his wife also struggled for many years, and unfortunately, have found that it will never happen for them, maybe they will someday have an unexpected little miracle like yours as well.
