Unhappy Tor. Star trashes L.C. Diets

This mornings Toronto Star (on the front page of an inside section) trashed all low carbohydrate diets.

They rated W.W. and Jenny C. as the best.

Pretty discouraging to continue on CAD when you are subjected to thig type of reporting in a national newspaper.

Any comments?

Joe

Write to the editors demanding where there reporters got their information at. There is no proof that low carb diets are bad. They should be forced to write a retraction on that article.

i don't read the toronto star. it's too left for my tastes. jenny craig!! any weightloss program that makes you buy their food just doesn't work. you're hungry while on the program (those meals are so tiny) and you gain when you go off. plus it's very expensive. weightwatchers is expensive now too. we should do a survey here to see how many people lost weight on ww and gained it back, many times!
joe don't let trash like this article deter you. you're doing great!

Found the article, and posted it in the Media forum, along with some "unbiased" comments

Question

How do you feel...what have you accomplished? That should say it all! You ever wonder if WW & J.C. push that article in there due to the fact that their business is slacking off? I'm sure they need to create as much bad news as possible on the low-carb diets...and J.C. has one its self. Grant you its not a true low-carb diet...but they do have one. Strike it up to ignorance! And feel good you know the truth and what REALLY WORKS! Hee hee!
SMILE,

Interesting that you mention this. The article posted just before the TorontoStar article in the Media forum is about JC losing profits!

Don't take the article seriously. Those guys are in the business of selling newspapers. Period.

--- Start of rant ---

100 years ago, a scientist went public with his discoveries, and was greeted with mockery and derision by his peers. He was forced to give up his prestigious job with his university; he became the laughing-stock of his day. He ultimately abandoned his homeland in shame, and poverty, never to return again. The man's name was Albert Einstein, and without his theory of relativity, the NASA space program would never have gotten off the ground.

We see with our own eyes that lowcarbohydrate eating programs are helping people lose weight, improve health, correct blood chemistry and prevent disease. We read testimony upon testimony from folks around the world whose lives are changed for the better by NOT eating the way the popular media tells us to. Yet the minute the media publishes a story, funded by who knows?? we abandon our belief, because .... because .... why? The media is all powerful, and all-knowing?? Remember this is the same media that kept silent for over a decade about the fact that cholesterol in your food has little effect on the cholesterol in your blood. Scientists knew this all along, and studies were published in the medical and scientific journals to this fact ... but were never circulated to the public ... because TOO MUCH MONEY was being made from the myth --- who cared if egg sales dropped off, when bigger profits could be made from sales of "cholesterol-free" potato chips, cookies and frozen, chemicalized egg-substitutes?

Lowcarb eating is a financial THREAT to the corporate well-being of grain-foods processors and sugar refiners. (meanwhile, the farmers aren't getting rich) You bet there's financial influence behind articles such as this one, and it ain't a result of an interest in our collective health.

--- End of rant ---

Right on, Doreen!

We have to buy "the book" to get started and that's it. WW, the carbohydrate pushing consortium and JC have a lot to lose.

Jomil, you're the one who possesses the golden key to your own well-being. Not those wankers.

Thumbs up Rant On Doreen!

I would loooooove to have the time to do some in-depth research behind the corporate veil of the Canadian publishing monopoly and see just who owns what here.

I'm sure that would be the expose of the century, if the author lived to tell about it ...

i just go off the phone w/my mom. she was telling me how my sister-in-law has lost 6lb lowcarbing. then she told me 2 of my aunts read about how bad lowcarbing was. i told her it was the toronto star article. i know they both read the star. i told mom that nothing has ever been proved that lcing is bad for health. i told her i personally know people on the internet who've improved their cholesterol, their triglycerides, their blood pressure and their blood sugar. i just copied your rant doreen. i'm going to show it to all my relatives. i'm so tired of them always telling me how unhealthy this diet is. just today my mom was saying how healthy can a diet be that doesn't let me eat fruits like apples, bananas and pears. i told her i eat spinach, endive, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, zuchini. i never was a big fruit eater because it made me messy. mom is very supportive of me and she said she didn't know that i was eating all those veg. then she said it's so frustrating that people can write reports w/out proof. sorry to go on, but sometimes i get frustrated. i feel better letting it out. thanks gang!
