Smile Language!

What people across the "pond" call heavy cream is what we call "double" cream. I notice Sainsburys now calls it thick or Extra thick cream.

The highest fat is often the lowest carb with most foods.
Have fun with the recipies
Take care.

Wink BLOODY AMERICANS!

FIRST OF ALL, I *AM* AMERICAN, SO NO OFFENSE INTENDED TO ANY "FOREIGNERS" IF THEY READ THIS!

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE STATESIDE RECENTLY TO VISIT RELATIVES, AND I KEPT TRYING DIFFERENT BRANDS OF "HEAVY* CREAM. IT WAS PRETTY SAD. THE HEAVIEST, MOST EXPENSIVE (AND IT *WAS* TOO) CREAM I COULD FIND OVER THERE WAS NO THICKER THAN OUR SINGLE CREAM. I WAS *SO* DISAPPOINTED! I USED TO THINK EVERYTHING OVER THERE WAS CHEAPER (NOT THAT I MINDED TOO MUCH; *WE* HAVE A HEALTH SERVICE!), BUT NOT AS FAR AS CREAM IS CONCERNED!

I AGREE WITH FIONA; USE DOUBLE CREAM; IT IS LOWER CARB AND *MUCH* NICER TO BOOT! TESCO HAS SOME "EXTRA THICK DOUBLE CREAM" THAT I HAVE TO STAY AWAY FROM; IT IS THICK ENOUGH TO STAND A SPOON UP IN, AND *DANGEROUS*!

Default LOL

{.ALL TIME ABSOULTE LOW CARB CONVERT NEVER BEEN HAPPIER..} I know what you mean. I did not have cream except when I was binging in my low-fat days. It was my happiest day when I started LCing and realised I could legally have double cream!

And beth you are right. Double cream in UK is exceptionally good - have you ever tried Cornish Devon Cream ... yummmmm out of this world. Can't wait to get back there. This time I can have big dollops of the stuff!

Take care.

I use heavy cream because it has the least carbs in it (as opposed to light cream or half and half). We use it in our coffee, it tastes the same and you use less of it.

Wink THIS THREAD IS PUTTING POUNDS ON ME!

NO, FIONA, I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF CORNISH DEVON CREAM-PROBABLY A GOOD THING TOO

DARK LOTUS, I HAD TO LAUGH. IMAGINE THE THOUGHT OF ME USING *LESS* DOUBLE CREAM THAN SINGLE OR HALF-N-HALF JUST BECAUSE IT IS THICKER! NOT THIS GIRL! I MIGHT USE LESS IN MY COFFEE, BUT I'D THEN HAVE TO HAVE A SPOONFUL OR TWO JUST BECAUSE IT WAS THERE! THE DEVIL MAKES ME DO IT, HONEST

I WAS HAVING CREAM EVERY DAY, BUT IT GOT TOO ADDICTIVE. I WAS BUYING TWO HALF-PINT POTS TO LAST ME FOR THE WEEK, AND THEY'D MANAGE 2-3 DAYS. I HAD TO STOP COLD TURKEY (OR WOULD THAT BE COLD COW?), AND NOW I BUY 2 X 5-OZ. CONTAINERS FOR THE WEEK AND I MANAGE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE IT EVERY DAY. I CAN STRETCH ONE POT TO 2 DAYS, BUT NO FARTHER. IT IS JUST TOO NICE TO RESIST ONCE IT IS OPEN. HAVING SAID THAT, KNOWING MYSELF AS I DO, I AM PRETTY IMPRESSED I MANAGE 2 DAYS ON THE WEE TUB NOW

Default IT'S A SAIR FECHT

AYE, CREAM IS A BIT OF A BUGGER BECAUSE IT IS JUST *SO* NICE. I DO ALRIGHT NOW WITH THE WEE POTS. I AM MANAGING TO MAKE ONE DO TWO DAYS, WHICH IS PRETTY ASTONISHING FOR ME. HOWEVER, AS I HAVE CANDIDA, I REALLY OUGHT TO FOREGO DAIRY PRODUCTS COMPLETELY IF I REALLY DO WANT TO SHIFT IT (AND I DO)

THIS IS ALL THE MORE IRONIC, AS CREAM USED TO BE *THE* ONE FATTENING THING THAT I WASN'T BOTHERED ABOUT

OH WELL. WE'LL GET THERE IN THE END, EH?

Exclamation More on cream

Cream is certainly addictive. Its so nice to have, but tend to really limit it. Its great when I treat myself to strawberries though.

Beth - Devon cream is fantastic. You can probably get it as clotted cream in the supermarket. It is solid. One of the guys here brought me a tub a month or so back, in place of a cake, for his birthday. One tub is too much, my insides rebelled for the rest of the day!!

Double cream is certainly better than single cream and the price difference is quite low these days.
