Faux Lasagna/Pizza Casserole

Faux Lasagna Casserole...This REALLY does taste a LOT like lasagna or pizza.

1 large head of cabbage (as large as you can find)
1 can (26-½ oz.) Hunt’s Cheese & Garlic Spaghetti sauce.
The sauce has 8 carbs per ½ cup serving. There are 6 servings per can, but you will get a LOT more than 6 servings from this dish depending on the size of the cabbage.
1 lb mozzarella cheese (more or less to taste)
2 lbs. hamburger or Italian sausage (or a combination of both)

Chop the cabbage; put ½ in a roaster or casserole dish.
Tear bite sized chunks off 1/2 the meat (raw) and throw in with the cabbage. Repeat with the other half of the cabbage and meat.
Pour the spaghetti sauce over.
Shred the cheese and sprinkle over the top.

Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until the cabbage is tender and the meat is done. Stir before serving. This freezes well. Reheat in microwave.

Wanted to bump this up for newbies. It's a REALLY good cold weather one-dish meal....and it freezes really well.

Sounds good...but is it greasy with the meat not being precooked and drained?

Parisfox Fri, Sep-23-05 15:41

Not really.....but it probably depends on how much fat is in the hamburger you use. It's pretty easy to skim off...especially after it has been refrigerated.

I do it with the meat raw because you get a much more flavorful dish that way. :agree:

Ragu has a sugar free spaghetti sauce I like. Not sure the carb count without going into the kitchen, but it could be a good option.

I'll have to check the Ragu out. So far, Hunt's is the lowest I've seen. But haven't seen the Ragu sugar free. Thanks for the info. I'm always looking for sugar free things.
