I just bought some too, and honestly when I opened the bag I nearly gagged. I am glad that this has been posted, I think I will actually be able to use them now.

Default About those Pork Rinds?

About those Pork Rinds?
Hello Everyone,

I live in New England and so far I have found and purchased only 1 bag of Pork Rinds. The brand name is WISE - original flavor. The ingredients list several spices - paprika, chili pepper, black pepper, celery sead, oregano, and coriander. They taste fairly plain but bacon-y.

When I began to crush them to make crumbs the smell made my kids and husband just about run out of the house! If we had a dog - I would have blamed it !!!

Do they all smell like this?

Default Used pork rinds last night in fact...

I ground them up (with my bravetti portable food processor) and used as "bread crumbs" for my meatloaf. Wonderful.

Question

I'm Cuban too. Here in Miami they have chicharrones (Pork Rinds) in every corner. The meat market ones are the best. They have the meat on them and they are delicious.

Well aside from that, I just still cant imagine the french toast with the porky taste of the rinds. Does it really taste like french toast and not greasy pork powder stuff?

I miss my chicharones with cuban tamales and tostones. God please make the days fly.... Please.

I live in Ontario too... I usually get mine at Bulk Barn. They usually have the original and BBQ flavours. And they're cheap too, less than $1 for a 60g bag.

I've also seen them at No Frills... but not all of their stores carry them.

My daughter made herself some garlic bread and made my mouth water at the aroma. So I decided to experiment with my pork rinds. I spread them on a plate and sprayed them with olive oil cooking spray. Then I gave them a generous sprinkle with granulated garlic, (powdered garlic would be fine also), about 2 oz. shredded mozerella, 1t parmesean and a few dashes of black pepper. Popped in the microwave for 30 secs, and Oh my, YUM! Totally satisfied my craving for garlic bread. Next time I am also going to add a few shakes of crushed red pepper before microwaving.

And BTW, anyone who has not tried the mock french toast made from pork rinds is missing a real treat. My non-lc daughter also loves them.

I was getting real sick of pork rinds. When I was shopping yesterday I saw a generic french onion dip that had only 1 carb per 2 TBS and I thought I'd try dipping the rinds in there-Tastes just like potato chips.

Sounds interesting ... where did you find this and what's the name of it? I'm in Canada so if you're in the states we probably don't get it here.

Has anyone else tried Cindielyn's recipe for Mock Garlic Bread? I'm a scardy cat, I'm waiting to hear from anyone who has tried it.

I'll be popping in to see what the consensus is on this recipe.

Sounds good though ... wish I wasn't so cautious.
