Default Holiday Help!

Hey all! I wanted to start a Holiday Help thread to help us with the Holidays. If you are like me at all, you often struggle when it comes to the holidays. Many of my weight loss attempts have ended by me crashing and burning during the holidays, sometime between Thanksgiving and New Years. So, I wanted to start a post here to help encourage everyone through this time. We can use it for whatever we want, but I am hoping to get a small group of us posting frequently to help each other through this time.

So, if you want daily accountability, overall encouragement, a place to vent that none of your family understands and forces junk food on you, or just a place to hole up and chat; please join me in the thread here. The more the merrier!

Well, day 1 down on plan. There are 41 days total if I am going to stay on track through the holidays and until I go back to work on that following Monday.

Already have my Thanksgiving plan: a rotisserie chicken from the supermarket. I have stray thoughts of a slice of pumpkin pie that are quickly squashed as an idea lol.

Nice job getting a plan in place. And yes, squash that pumpkin pie thought. That’s going to be tough for me.

I'll join in.

Both DH and I are in our 70s so we stay at home except for grocery shopping and exercise. Our families live far, far away. That's the way we like it. LOL

DH processes carbs normally, but I cook real food for him and try to keep him healthy.

When I go off plan, it's a mental lapse. I know I'm going to do it and willfully go ahead. That's unfortunate, as I've been eating to ketosis off and on since 1972 and that translates to feeling really, really bad physically when I go back to eating right.

I've planned a few sweets for DH for the Holidays, but he self-rations. People like me who can't-eat-just-one just don't understand how he does it.
I've bought beef steaks for the celebratory days so I won't feel deprived, but I can never tell when it will hit me. The urge.

Here I am.

Hi Glenda! Thanks for jumping in. I've seen you around the board here a bit, but not sure we have ever talked much.

Sounds like you have a good plan for your and you DH. You definitely know what works and doesn't work for you. I'm also someone who can't do the just-eat-one approach. I need to be on track and have things planned out for it to work for me.

Looking forward to getting through the holidays on track this year.

Wow, I'm usually the punny one in our house and I missed that one.

Hope things are going well Mr. Thud!

Today is Thanksgiving here in the US. First big test of the holiday season for me. We will be at my wife's parents for dinner tonight. Very small gathering with no extended family coming in from out of town. Just us here. They will have full on sugar everything including glazes, carrots with brown sugar, pies, cookies, and all sorts of sundry items. Just sticking with the turkey, salad, hard boiled eggs, and maybe some green beans.

Hang in there everyone and stick to your plan.

So far today:
BPC made with C8 powdered MCT oil
2 slices bacon

DH asked me, "When is Thanksgiving?" Yep! We're that dizzy!

I'll bake him a loaf of fresh bread today and the smell will bring him downstairs for a warm slice. For dinner, I don't know. Will I cook him a steak? Maybe.

No trips anywhere today except exercise walk in the sun. It's currently 50F here so maybe I should set out for my second walk of the day.

Sounds like a good day so far, Glenda.

And I love your idea of a steak for Thanksgiving. Why isn't that the tradition instead of turkey? I would prefer that any day. Let's start a new tradition!

Enjoy your walk in the sun. It's starting to get colder here, so not a lot of walks outdoors.

7 jars/dishes of candy, 2 pies, and an apple cobbler... and I’m not gonna have any.

It’s been a good day so far. Dinner was good. Skipped the cranberries, squash with brown sugar, jello, corn, and all desserts and candy. I had a big salad with blue cheese dressing, turkey (and a tiny bit of gravy because it was really dry), green bean casserole (I picked out the French fried onions), 1 teaspoon of mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, and ham/pickle/cream cheese roll ups. Very happy with my day.
