Default Blood pressure

Since my weight shot up a few years ago, I’ve been battling high blood pressure. I’m talking average of 140 systolic and between 94 and 100 diastolic. That last one is especially concerning because it indicates the strain on your heart at rest. Today I checked my blood pressure after a mere 2 weeks of strictly low carb eating, and this was the result:

Never mind that I am down almost 10 pounds, my blood pressure is normal again! I am so stoked, I cannot begin to tell you. What a relief!

YES!!!!

My PB is my first reminder that I have not been eating OP. When I stray, it starts to rise, abive my "normal". It is my reminder , and kick in the pants, to get back On Plan to get the numbers dropped asap. Usually on ly takes a couple weeks.

Sooo I TOTALLY understand how thrilled you are. Keeep OP and heal you2r body. Then keep OP to keep healthy.

If I might add, I recently learned the value of vitamin K2, this is a unique vitamin that we mostly lack. It is the glue and the director of calcium-- sends it to the bones and the teeth where it belongs, and reduces teeth plaques and vessel plaques. WOrth looking into to support your heart health, and look into coQ 10.

Thrilled your PB is in a happy place!!

Reminder, if you are on BP medication, that may need to be reduced or eliminated. A LC Diet is naturally diuretic (a reason BP can drop quickly) so with a medication can bring BP too low.
A good guide to BP: https://www.dietdoctor.com/blood-pressure

Great news, Mondaygirl! It's a good indicator you're heading in the right direction. Many start this WOE focusing strictly on weight loss and learn over time that the overall improvement in health that comes with "eating clean" is a long-lasting benefit.

My blood pressure went to a good range pretty much right away when I first went low carb. My Dad seems to have to lose a little weight first before that happens. Both weight loss and low carb will bring insulin levels down, so I suspect the mechanism might still be the same.

I’m new here! Thanks for sharing this! I finally decided to make a change because of high bp dx after having low bp all my life. Scared me enough to get serious and lose this weight. I hope my numbers are as good as yours at next check.

Mine went down when I started Atkins, even before I lost much weight. Some effect on BP is likely due to the water loss when first going low-carb. A "water pill" is usually the first choice for a BP med. Not recommended for the Atkins diet though.

I thought I’d post an update. These are today’s results after another 2 weeks of low carb eating and being in a state of ketosis. I am so happy that the downward trend continues!

Cool

Horray!!!!

A great reason to live LC for life. Also-- so you dont have to wait another 20 years like I did from starting LC to learning this: Take a K2 vitamin supplement to further protect your heart. This is not the vitamin that affects the blood clotting, this is a very different affect. This puts calcium where it belongs. It is in foods we dont tend to eat anymore. So a supplement is worth it.

Welcome. Found it at walmart but not CVS. Might take some looking.
