There are a lot of researchers looking at the effect of this way of eating (low carb, very low carb, ketosis) on auto-immune diseases, cancer, and longevity. So if ketosis is important for that reason, than I would probably purchase a blood or breath ketone meter. But for weight loss alone, I'm not sure it's important to know as it's very true that I have been in ketosis for months and not lost a pound. Until I found a way to lower insulin and get at the stored fat through fasting, it was fairly irrelevant to me personally.

Living, as you do, among people who are culturally adapted to drama (as in, Daughter's ILs) it can be that much harder to be calm about things.

When her FIL had a heart attack, he wanted her DH to go coffin shopping with him. That sort of thing.

I have been a diabetic since 1992, and to tell you the truth I haven't taken it seriously until recently ( the last year ).Do you think Jey100, that until I get my insulin resistance under control and heal my body, then and only then will I see true results as far as my weight is concerned. What do you think?

LOL, Carol. Probably true about letting the emotions out.

Heh, the heart attack was four years ago. He's had, since then, numerous issues with what appear to me to be anxiety attacks.

And, of course, he's eating the typical after heart attack diet that is likely to kill him sooner rather than later: lots of pasta, very little meat, fat or salt.

It's a shame, really. But I'm female, and he's pretty old school sexist, so he certainly wouldn't listen to me. Luckily, his son is NOT cut from the same cloth. Because my daughter is more like me than not, so they'd never have made it, if he were.

Well, what I've found is that the fact THAT I went off plan, or even came seriously close to doing it isn't as important as what led to it, what I can learn from it and how I can plan to avoid it in the future.

So, get off the naughty step, and start figuring it out.

You don't have bacon as we know it here. But you have pancetta. If you have something fatty, salty and delicious available in your frig, it really does help.
