Today is day 3 of the full strength Champix. You work your way up to full strength over a week. Most common side effect is upset stomach and I have that. Next most common is drowsiness. Yesterday I got up at 5 am. By 9 am I couldn't keep my eyes open so crawled under the covers for a wee nap. That nap lasted 3 1/2 hours and wow did I sleep deeply! Both of those side effects should go away over the next week.
Thanks for sharing what Champix is like for you, KM. I didn't realize drowsiness is one of the side effects. Glad you at least got a super good deep sleep. Hoping the best for you and good on you for tackling this habit. That's great you also have a coach. Smart! Have a great day.
Still battling nausea and upset stomach. Started Gravol ginger yesterday. Cigs taste like s**t. That's a good thing. I remember that from last time around.
We're going on a day trip today so it's a good day to see how long I can go without a cig. We don't smoke in my car.
Just taking it one day at a time and really trying to hear what my body is saying. Lots of folks on quit smoking forums quit before their target date just because it felt right. I have a feeling I'm going down that path too.
Good to hear, KM. Even if you know that something is helpful, it's hard to deal with yucky side effects.
I hope that you are super proud of yourself so far. My mom quit at least 20 times, and always went back to smoking. Dad quit once, at Lent, and never went back, so it was really hard for him to understand.
Quit day was supposed to be July 1. Didn't make that..but have gone from 40 smokes a day to 8.
I met with the quit coach last week and we talked about how, why and when I smoke. She's quite pleased with my progress and admitted that because I'm a heavy smoker it will take longer for the Champix to kick in and I'll need to say on it for longer. We talked a good deal about why I failed after being on the Champix successfully over the winter and she gave me strategies for coping.
At the end of the day this is like going LC. It's a lifestyle change. I need to change patterns and habits. I did it for LC so I know I can do it for quitting. I am determined to quit and stay off this time.
I'll put the rest of my quitting journey in my regular journal.
Just a quick update......
I finally have this thing nailed shut. The quit coach suggested I read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking.
I did. And the earth shook, the seas parted and I finally understood the power of that wicked nicotine monster running around inside my brain.
Seriously, the book debunks every myth and excuse smokers use to keep smoking and addresses the real issue...that smokers are addicts. He provides instructions for how to become a non addict. Pretty amazing and powerful stuff.
