Default Snoring

Anyone find that they stopped or reduced snoring since cutting the carbs?

That bennie kicks in for me when I attain a certain weight, not simply from avoiding carbs. I do eat dairy, but not right before bed, for better results, as well.

According to DH I still snore even when I am at goal weight, but it is softer. When I eat carbs and especially peanut products he can hear me snore throughout the house!

Hi, I just started Atkins 4 days ago. I have been reading through posts here trying to gain more information about this type of eating. I noticed this thread. I hope more people chime in. My husband keeps buying me all kinds of gadgets to help with my snoring because he is a super sensitive sleeper. I am hoping that weight loss will help me.

Snoring usually is from a combination of factors. Weight IS one, but even normalizing that won't necessarily end snoring. Husband is slender, always has been.

I've had to perfect the gentle poke to roll him on his side over the decades.

I've got sinus congestion right now and that is making me snore. A shot of flonase before bed helps, but avoiding dairy helps even more.

Weight loss helped my husband's snoring somewhat, but he was eventually diagnosed with sleep apnea. He uses a CPAP now, has for many years, and everyone sleeps much better. It also helped him lose weight.

I always suggest a sleep study for snoring, just in case. Apnea is no joke and comes with a lot of health risks, more than just lost sleep.

If a person snores but there is no one present to hear, does it make a sound?

I'm bumping this thread because it's a common problem, and this is a wise solution. Get a referral from your PCP before you arrange for a sleep study, just in case of insurance issues.

I had a sleep study done in 2014.(and, yes, they are very expensive if you don't have insurance) I read that almost nobody continues to use the machines. I tried every kind of oral appliance and bed wedges.

This is the serious part: From my untreated sleep apnea I have enlarged red blood cells (Macrocytosis) and too many red blood cells. In my case, I stop breathing and the hypoxia causes my bone marrow to over produce the red blood cells.

I'm very healthy.....go figger, and I don't know if my Medicare doctor is going to treat me or not. My experience is that they just ignore the issue. However, if you have health issues, and find a doctor who cares about you it might be good to get a sleep test done.

Just my .02.

There are other things one can do, like surgery.

I'm off dairy now (again) and my sinuses are finally clearing. Hopefully that'll put an end to the snoring.

I am going to try to go dairy free for a while to see if it helps me. I already miss cream in my coffee
But I am curious to see if this is the culprit.

Do you think using ghee would hurt the experiment?

I stopped snoring when I lost weight - it gradually diminished with the weight loss.

Jo, you were lucky. Some nights, I have to "roll" my tall thin husband to his side, over and over, just so I can get back to sleep.

My husband and several of my friends - all with different doctors - still very much use their machines.

I'm so sorry you're being ignored. I hope you can find a doctor who will actually help you.
