The jury is still out if this forum is the place for me. Despite appearances to the contrary, I'm really not looking for controversy...I'd just like to fine a place to talk among individuals on a similar journey. If my mentioning having a slice of rye bread with my eggs for breakfast gets me banished to a low trafficked section of this forum, then perhaps it's best to just move on.

I know, the bread is a carb. However, I'm working backward. Instead of starting with strictest carb restriction and then reintroducing carbs, I'm working to change the balance to substitute fat for carbs.

So...this meal was 19% protein, 16% carb, and 65% fat. It's the easiest meal of the day, IMHO.

Have you tried the Carbquik cheddar buns? YUM!!!

And there is the cad/calp section I eat bread, and it's part of my plan, and I'm losing weight doing it, craving free.

I eat one thin, danish style bread - 11carbs per slice. I don't find it triggers me and with plenty of butter and an egg on top for breakfast, I can last for five hours before eating.

I'm experimenting with getting the right level of carbs/protein for me as zero & very low carb just didn't work for me in terms of weight loss - I felt okay, but I just came to the conclusion that there is no point battling on for 6 to 7 weeks if the scales are not moving.

Bread and indeed all flour/sugar carbs are addictive to me, if I have one slice of bread or even just a mouthful of cake, I'm away!!!. Its like telling a reformed smoker that they can have one cigarette - in fact I am a smoker and if I ever choose to give up, I'd not be able to have them ever - not even a puff on someone elses!!!

It is delicious, but I no longer have the toast. Had half an apple this morning. Most days it's just eggs, cheese and/or bacon. Breakfast is the easiest meal by far for me to eat low carb, so I try to save my carb food for later.

I'm now down 76lbs, and am no longer obese. For me, I can have moderate amount to of carbs if I also watch calories. It's a lifestyle that I have been able to live with more than I could a strict low carb.

Even Dr Atkins says it's OK to eat a thin slice of rye crispbread for breakfast. I do that now, with my cheese, most days and it doesn't cause me any problems.

Any of you who can eat bread and not gain and not crave are lucky. I am not. I look at breads and gain weight

It is all body individual. What triggers one person may not trigger another.

So find what works for you.

I will be forever bread, sugar, pasta, frankenfood free and I LOVE IT! There isn't a piece of toast in the world that can tempt me.

I just plunged into low-carbing, because I was freaked out about my liver, which the dr. had told me was fatty. The more I read on here, and other places, the more my head began to spins. All these different diets, with different emphases. Should I be doing the Atkins over the Schwarbein, over Paleo, over Peat's, over doing my own thing? Each diet guru believes their method is the right one, and each book is filled with science that makes it sound plausible. However, we can't learn to live from a book, and so we use our best guesses and see how our bodies respond. For me low-carbing makes sense and I'm leaving the science to those who find it interesting. I don't care about glyogen, insulin, cortisol, et al, I only care if I'm feeling better. I've taught for years and one thing I realized early on was that dogma doesn't work. No matter how well thought out my theory of teaching, as soon as it came to the practical application of it there was often a disconnect between teacher and student. In other words: we use the tools we have to construct our own unique way of life...and eating.
