Default I Live In Canada: Where Can I get Armour?

Here in Canada I don't think there is anywhere I can get Armour with or without a prescription. And even River does not have it so I don't know of a source at all. Can anyone help? I will NOT be able to get a prescription here for it but I'd be willing to get it on line if I could.

My doctor here is not very helpful. My test showed I was "low" but not very low - you all know the story. My temp. is 'low' but not very low - again not low enough to worry HIM. My hair is falling out - but HE didn't seem too worried about it but it makes ME cry every blessed day. AND I'M FREEZING!!!!! AND I CAN'T LOSE AN OUNCE NO MATTER WHAT I EAT OR DON'T EAT.

I have been taking Synthroid for 24 days - nothing so far - I know that's not very long, and he only gave me .025 to start with. I took two yesterday and two today to try to get something going - even the pharmacist commented at the low dose!!!!

So I'm interested in taking Armour. I'm very much afraid if I wait for my doctor to work with me I'll be bald and fat before I see any results. He will treat to test results but not my symptoms!!!!

Please help!!! (edit: in fact, I've gained weight lately!!!!) (second edit: I do have an address in the U.S. I could use as a shipping address)

yeah, I realized that after I posted. And I know now that I can't get Armour without a prescription and there is no hope in heck of getting that without driving at least 7 hours.....and waiting months....oh well, I guess I'll have to stick to the lousy doctor I have now, and stay on the Synthroid - better than nothing...but thanks!!!

Where about's in Canada are you? I know that you can get an Rx from a naturopath.... I am on synthroid too ( I have no thyroid at all, lol) and have thought about going the armour route, will go talk to the naturopath first.

thanks for your response, you're very kind. lowcarbjo, how is the synthroid working for you? Did you lose any of your hair? If so did it grow back? That's the thing that bothers me so much!!!

I'm so new at all this it's easy to get confused - there is so much information to digest. My doctor doesn't even share my test results with me!!! I should go to a naturopath I guess....

Anyway thanks.

there is a website called Best Thyroid Doctors in Canada. (something like that) Then just look up Ontario and they list a few doctors and a few ND's. I have looked at it as I live in Southern Ontario also. I haven't decided yet to see anyone as I want to see about getting my doc to do the blood work. It might help. There are a few naturopath's in Toronto area that will do blood work. (I did find them on website, can't think at the moment which) so there might be some in your area.
Hope it helps. Good luck!

Thanks Krystalcat! I'll check it out. Do you have low-thyroid symptoms too? Do you take anything now or are you waiting for your blood work?

My thyroid comes back normal. But thru reading The Schwarhbein Prgram and earlier talking with Pam, I realize that I need my rT3 checked. My fT4/fT3 come back fine. Also I have learnt that thyroid issues sometimes are actually hormonal issues. And if the hormones are not in balance then that's a problem - and weight will not come off. The body first needs to heal via hormones etc, then the weight lowers as the body needs. More important then just lose weight. With this new info, I booked with an Gyn to re-check my sex hormones (I once was on biohormones, and I want to check the levels now). Next I will go to my fam.doc and explain why and pls run the bloodwork (have to confirm what bloodwork needs doing). And then pls send me to an enorodigist (sp?) for the reading. That doc will understands the rT3 reading plus the rest of them. IF I do need some thyroid then I will take it. But its not good to take thyroid if you don't need it. It can actually blackfire to take it.
Sorry it's long, not sure if it helps.

I thought there was a law in Canada that we MUST have access to our results. The lab I use gave me website address and a number ID to access my numbers - now I can get them as soon as they're available, usually as soon as my doctor does. It IS password protected!

I don't know about Ontario, but in BC the labs won't do even the FT4 and FT3 testing if your TSH is within normal limits UNLESS your doctor requests them within 7 days of the original test. I think next time I'm there I'll ask if I can get them done if I agree to pay for them up-front.

I know with my doctor (and most specialists I see) I just say I want a copy of the results (even reports) after they have talked to me, and I might have to pay the photocopying. Mostly it's after as they want to have read it first. Would be nice just to get them from the lab via net. My understanding is they have to give you the copy as it is my (your) results. But I think some doctors don't like to give away the control. Without the results then you can't go to someone else. Yeah, right - in Canada running to another family doctor ain't that easy!!!!

You gals got that right!! Our system can suck at times. I have an opportunity to go to a new doctor here but I'm almost reluctant because he's mostly likely just as bad as the old one.

This morning I noticed a slight swelling on one side of my lower throat (where my thyroid is) and my DH noticed it too. So when I go in to the doctor's later I sure hope he will actually TOUCH me this time and take that into consideration!!!!!!

Anybody have any idea what this kind of swelling means? I've also had that gravelly voice for quite some time too. I'm getting kind of nervous about all this!!!

I'll report back - maybe in a general thread and report what he says....thanks for your responses - you are so kind to such a know-nothing newbie!!!!

By the way, do you think we should start a thread for Canadians? We seem to have such a different system, different measurements for tests, and cannot access some of the meds our US sisters and brothers can get????? If not, I'm happy with what we have too.

Topacoma I live in TO and have the best doctor who (a) introduced me to low-carbing and (b) set me up with Thyroid aka 'Canadian Armour' - he'll charge for care (he's an ND as well as an MD) but he's worth it IMHO. If you want the info I can send you a PM.

If you're concerned about your throat have your doc set up an ultrasound to see if it's a goiter. The lymph nodes in my throat puff up like mad if I'm fighting off a cold, though, so it might not be related to your thyroid, given the 'gravelly voice' and all. Still, an ultrasound takes about 10 minutes and often doctors will have the machines right in their clinics. Worth a shot for peace of mind.

Here's a link to the Canada part of the forum: Canada board

By the way, did you know that this forum originated in Canada? Tamarian, our founder, was living in Vancouver at the time but he's since moved to Ontario.

Hi.... not to freak you out but my "lump" turned out to be 2 types of thyroid cancer, 2 surgeries and radiation therapy... I now have NO thyroid, am on 250mcg of synthroid and see an oncologist every year for life.... thankfully thyroid is a curable cancer if caught early.... not wanting to scare you but MAKE your doc check the lump and insist on answers.... don't let him fluff you off!!

Hi GlendaRC and lowcarbjo - No I sure didn't know that this whole thing was started by a Canadian - way to go, eh? And thanks, I'll take a look at the Canada board.

About the swelling in my neck - well he felt it and said there was nothing there....but we had such a yelling match, and I came away with what I wanted - test results, and his promise that he would treat me until my results were where I wanted them - not were he thought they were "normal" - so I let it go. It really only shows up when I bend my head back. He felt all around with my head normal, and slightly down, and I guess it was not there then....so I'll keep track myself and it it worries me I'll get an ultra sound.

I'd had quite enough of him for one day....thanks for the tip though.
