YES on all counts.

My hormone problem manifests with Cortisol Resistance; my body is making lots of cortisol but it's not getting into my cells. Chronic inflammation from chronic stress. So niacin (with the B & C chaser) actually seems to let the cells heal from whatever has caused their dysfunction. Dr. Saul studied under Dr. Abram Hoffer, who used it with great success on POWs from WWII in Canada.

I stumbled into the link between chronic inflammation and sleep problems when I was using white willow bark for a fever, and discovered it helped me sleep better. But niacin is much better for long term use.

SilverEm, anytime you suppress a process in the body, there is a good chance the body will try and compensate by up-regulating receptors, hormones, neurotransmitters, etc...I'll PM you some information if you want to do more research on this subject.

Nicekitty, thank you for the explanation. I'll go read about this....

ETA: No need to send a PM. I'm convinced about the artificial GABA being a bad idea.

Thank you so much for the warning.

Excellent point. This is why people say things like "it worked for a while." The body is going to seek stasis, even a disordered one.

That's why the best approach is always addressing the root of the problem, instead of just playing Whack-a-Mole with the symptoms.

Can't PM and can't find the link I was looking for anyway! But here's a good list of ideas for help with sleep (you could also look around a bit here--think you have sleep problems! ) :
