I am coming over to Victoria the weekend of Jan 9/10 so hope the 10th is a go! I'm having a mini-vacation & spending three nights at the Sidney Pier Hotel. I hope to catch up with several friends I haven't seen in a while - including you all.

Janet

Julie, we have some folding chairs that we bring to shows where chairs aren't provided for customers - shall I throw them in the van?

Glad to hear you're going to be able to make it Janet!

I'm going to try, but Bruno is making my family a traditional North African meal on the 10th and I don't know if I can do both. let me get back to you!
We might cancel it because everybody is just sick of food right now.

By all means Glenda - I have 4 chairs that are in good shape and one that is not.... ok, so I am pathetic and I rarely have company!!

Any ideas as to a menu?

Hope you can make it Steph! We miss you!

g'morning, everybody, and here's to a happy healthy 2010! I'd love to make it but still not sure if I can on a weekend. We're still trying to figure out our Mainland schedule working around the Olympics (=we want to avoid Vancouver as much as possible from mid-January to late March! --but still need to get over there as much as possible...sigh).

Do we have to plan a menu? I've always thought the luck of the draw for a potluck was fun. Sometimes a meal of only desserts, sometimes nothing but salad varieties, sometime meat dishes to excess, but always interesting! Usually a really nice variety!

Anny, surely you won't have to avoid the mainland until late March. Aren't the Olympics only 6 weeks? They should be over by the end of February and most tourists will have left within a week of the end, won't they?? I can sure empathize with your wanting to avoid the whole area for the duration! Us too .... I hope if you have to go over the weekend of the 10th, that you can go on Friday evening and come back on Sat. evening so you'll be here for the 10th! We've really missed you!!

I had thought that Jude was coming to my house to "help" me (read: make) a main dish so others could bring stuff to share....

If I am misinformed (not the first time), I will think of something to make (salmonella free) and not worry about a menu at all....

Julie

PS I will send PMs on how to get to my house

Well, ladies, I have had a bit of a medical crisis & won't be coming over. I had my blood sugar checked at work yesterday cuz I had been really thirsty the last couple of weeks (yes, you know where this is heading) & my sugar was really high. After multiple blood tests & two shots of insulin, I was sent home with a Metformin presc.& the need to buy a glucometer. My doctor has advised me that it would not be a good idea to go away right now as I need to keep a very close eye on my sugars (they are still high) & eating (I know that the pot luck was probably going to be low carb but I had planned on spending a couple of days in Victoria so most of my meals would have been restaurent meals).

I hope that I can make it to the February get-together

A very disappointed Janet

{{{{{{{Awww Janet}}}}}}} I'm really sorry to hear that, but look after yourself - your health has to come first, of course! And aren't glucometers free with 100 test strips, and doesn't Pharmacare help with the cost of the strips? Sounds like it's time to get really strict with your low-carb diet and help keep this under control.

I've been classed as pre-diabetic for the past 5 or so years - so far no change either up or down in my FBG nor HbA1c. That's one thing that keeps me coming to the forum, it helps keep me on the straight and narrow!

Julie, you might have to email Jude and ask her point-blank - I haven't seen her on the forum for awhile, but she does answer her emails.

Ok, so I connected with Jude today..... she's in.

so.....I will make an appy big enough for everyone (assuming 6 of us). Shall we leave it to chance what we end up with (could be fun!)?

I can buy some diet Coke and find some white wine for our lunch.

Glenda promised extra chairs and I have enough of eveything else.

Julie
