I saw this too. my favorite part was this person's comment at the bottom:
Quote:
Must Have McDonald's! Easy, Igor. Easy. Easy. Oh to soothe the savage fastfood hunger. Oh yummy, lots of fat and grease. Who's the chef? Will you look at that close up of that big, fat, juicy fastfood burger with greasy fries? What are they trying to do to the readership!? Send double messages with double cheeseburgers? “Oh Ezekiel’s dry pancreas! I think I’m a goner!” Fatty diet linked to happiness. Happiness linked to fatty links. Fatty links linked to kissin' cousins. What else were those snack happy, generously proportioned folks doing or not doing between junkfood binges that may have led them to get pancreatic cancer? Uh huh, uh huh-oh that's disgusting! And how many really skinny people have ever had their pancreas say no? (Please do not answer: These are simply figurative questions.) What were the other factors? "Monster truck racing?" "Fire eating?" No? Well that explains it. Regarding those who were affected, How old were they? "Why they we're so old... [as Carson would have said] "they were so old, if they were ever going to die, they would of had to have died of something." “Whitney, do an autopsy on Methuselah here. After all he was only a thousand. But let's see what got him. Hmm... Yes... Pancreatic cancer. Just as I suspected. I say we do an article on this. See who will buy it.” These big fat eaters. Were they haunted, sublimated librarian types like the rest of us? Or we're they "livin' la vida loca"? What does the article mean by lots of fat? Native peoples of the polar region apparently eat "lots" of fat. Do they too get "lots" of pancreatic cancer? Can you say pancreas? If you are like most people, you cannot. You do not even know where your pancreas is. It's 12 o' clock, Do you know where your pancreas is?

They also stated that saturated fat was linked to insulin resistance?????

Only if you have no idea how insulin works!!!

I am calling Shenanigans on this one.

In order to determine cause, we must isolate it. In other words, we must compare one population with non-zero rate of cancer against one population with zero rate of cancer. I bet that the zero rate population eats zero sugar.

I saw that one several days back, I think its another: lets look for more statistical data to support our hypothesis that red meat/saturated fats are unhealthy.
Quote:
the association between fat intake and pancreatic cancer could be related to the so-called exocrine function of the pancreas, which excretes enzymes such as those that help digest fat.
Isn't that the job of "Joe's Gallbladder?"

That would probably require you to read the study.

Half a million people, directly observed? Wow, that's a lot. I wonder how many times the NIH budget that would cost. Maybe we could get away with directly observing fewer people. How many do you think would be a sufficient sample?

Determine cause? Easy there, Martin. You and the reporter are the only two who think that the study tried to determine cause. Do you have any analysis of the study itself instead of the typically bottom-shelf ABC news-release reportage?

I would be excited to discuss this study with anyone who has read it. Please let me know.

What an astute observation. Let's start with a single subject. After all, a bunch of results is merely anecdotal data organized differently.

What are you expecting to measure with a single subject?

Whatever we want to measure. In this case, it's the cause of pancreatic cancer.

from sciencedaily, about this study:

They do note, however, that there is insufficient epidemiological and laboratory evidence to confirm the importance of animal fats or even that meat is the important factor, as opposed to other dietary or lifestyle preferences associated with meat consumption.
