Hey! How did I miss your post?

Gee Hismouse, people are very friendly in Portland. Are they not so friendly in your town?

Hi, Hismouse! Jacksonville is a pretty little town. I've been there many times.

That might be cool! I'd be happy to share cost of fuel.

Default Recommendation: Portland Restaurant

Recommendation: Portland Restaurant

Just had a late breakfast at Restaurant (ate-oh-ate): Loco Moco without the rice (hamburger patty smothered in mushroom gravy and topped with 2 fried eggs)

This was very good. The chef knows his business. The eggs were perfectly cooked, as was the hamburger patty! Most cooks overcook hamburger, but mine showed up medium rare, just right. The mushroom gravy does have some flour; cook says about 2 cups of flour per 2 gallons of gravy. It was made with beef stock and it was very very good. So about 6g carbs worth of flour per cup of gravy.

They make poke fresh, daily. Per order. (I got some tuna poke for later.) AND this place makes stir fries with shirataki noodles!!!!! Yes! AND you can order an omelette with Spam or Portuguese sausage! Or get some Kalua Pork with cabbage!

Kitchen is very accommodating. Mellow atmosphere. Happy Hour 4-6PM.

New here and this thread is old. Not sure if I'll wake it up or not. I am currently in Josephine county and hopefully moving to Douglas county soon. I lived in Jacksonville this last summer Hismouse. Wonderful town. And many people stopped me to pet my horse. I'd come to town a few days a week to check my mail. My horse is a people magnet! What fun.

Thanks for bumping this thread! So nice to hear about other LCers living in Oregon. I live near Roseburg (so no Whole Foods nearby), but will be heading out to the Farmers' Market in a few minutes, where I hope to find the "chicken lady", and get a few chickens for the freezer.

Nice. I bet your Farmers' Market has better prices than mine does.

Get to Eugene much? Go Ducks!

Well, maybe (on the prices), but pastured chicken will never beat even Whole Foods' sale price. But they sure do taste good!

We used to go to Eugene at least once a month - Trader Joe run! but now I have learned to stock up, and can get by for longer.

Not much of a sports fan, but I'll second your Go Ducks!

Whole Foods Market has lobster tails on sale at $6 each, through tomorrow! Also, rack of lamb at $14/lb. Get 'em while you can!

I know this is not a very active thread, but want to chime in all the same. I'm currently living in TX and planning a move to the Eugene area this coming Fall. I was born in Salem, lived my early youth in Corvallis and spent a few years between Coos Bay and Gresham as a young adult. I've lived in 30 states, but my heart has always been in OR. I do hope to meet like-minded people once I get settled in the area. My hope is for a life of long bicycle tours up and down the valley and over the mountains to the coast and high desert. I have always loved the geography and people of Oregon.
