The first line in the article is "Give up carbs and prepare to spend the rest of your life on the defensive." That about sums it up, doesn't it?

It's a funny article about some of his experiences with people, and the social and martial "side effects" to following low carb.

I don't have a response to Miss-carrot-stick-up-her-butt, but even Gary Taubes has to deal with idiot people!

I gotta get that edition of Prevention. I dislike that magazine cause it isn't very supportive of the low carb lifestyle. it actually treats us like idiots. It is about time they had someone who has some sense. Gotta getit.

I met a couple recently, both very large, who upon hearing I was doing Atkins told me that they too had "both been on 'it' 5 years ago and lost huge amounts of weight, but it's not healthy so we came off it and look at us - we've put it all plus more back on."

Before I could stop myself, my mouth engaged and out came "well what do you expect if you go back to eating all the crap that made you fat in the first place" My darling cringe and moved away!!!

Well I ask you - what a stupid thing to say after you've had so much success.

That drives me nuts. The "once you get off it, you'll gain it all weight" thing. That's true of ALL diets for pete's sake!

I was on WW for over a year and only managed to take off 25 lbs. Then I went off and gained it all back plus some. Duh! I went back to my old habits. Same with when I went off of Atkins the first time. I went back to the fat gaining habits and....gained it all back. Shocker.

I wasn't planning on getting off it - I'm pretty sure I'm LC for life....

Ain't the diet mentality grand?

I sorta think that is a self-steaming vegetarian.

that's what i was going to say... just mention how much you love atkins, wait till you see the steam coming from their ears, and when they're fork-tender, serve with a nice chianti and mashed cauliflower.

and would you guys PLEASE post spew alerts? the guys in the IT department aren't going to keep replacing my monitors for free.

I don't really give a rat's patootie about what the ill informed of the world think about Atkins. Actually, I don't usually discuss any of this with anyone. The ignorance out there is truly astounding. People don't learn or read anything, but like lemmings they just absorb some silly mindless something or another they've heard or read something, and that becomes gospel. The easiest thing to say is "I'm eating this because I want to", or "I don't want any of that." No further explanation is given, and mostly no one says anything. I long ago got sick and tired of trying to illuminate people about this WOE. Closed minds are closed minds, after all!
