Default Yoga for Plus Sizes

My therapist recommended yoga for me in order to get exercise. I ordered a DVD from Amazon called Yoga for Plus Sizes. The lady who does the video is really plus sized, not just those women who say they are because they wear a 12. I watched the tips section first, then watched the warm up. My first thought was, how is this exercise? But I'm 51, so thought it looked like something easy I could do. My hubby pulled back the coffee table for me, and then left to run errands. When he came back, I was sitting on the couch with wide eyes. I told him everything on my body popped and cracked and complained, and although I couldn't see how this stretching stuff really amounted to exercise, I did it. Well, today I woke up feeling like I'd run the marathon. Not to mention the incredible relaxed feeling I had after the workout. So it does work. Just start slow and don't overdo it. This is the only exercise I've tried that I really felt could be habit forming.

Good for you. Any exercise is good exercise. Be sure that you check your form you don't want to injure anything.

Kathy, could you double check the title of the DVD. Is it called Yoga: Just My Size With Megan Garcia? I think I may be ready for something like this.

Mama Lu, you're right on that title. That's the one I bought at Amz. I like it a lot.

Hi Reginia,

I like it a lot. I wasn't stiff the next day, so it's not particularly rigorous, but it's a great start. It does put me in touch with my body, give me some great stretching, and, in time, will help me improve my balance and flexibility. I hope that, like Serea, I'll eventually have the confidence to go to classes. Unfortunately, I've been fighting a cold this week, and deep breathing isn't in the cards, but I'll be back to it tomorrow.

Thanks Mama Lu,

I am looking for something outside my norm of WATP. Something to improve my flexibility sounds like a great start.

I posted this to begin with, so I'll give you my views on it after a couple of weeks of doing the video.
I have much more flexibility in my body. I can bend, tie shoes, pick up things off the floor, without much effort now. Also getting in and out of the car is easier. I'm much more relaxed--less tension in my body, especially neck and shoulders. I have more stamina throughout the day.
So, I give it five stars!

I bought this video, after reading Kathy's original post. Personally, I'm not much for exercising via video (for some reason, even though I'm the only one in the house) I always feel funny doing a workout in front of the televison.

Nevertheless, I decided to give this tape a go.

I love it! It's great for beginners--an excellent place to start if you need to go light on the exercise, or have never done yoga before. After doing the routine I do in fact feel very calm, yet energized. My muscles tend to feel that they have been worked (particularly my upper thighs and calves), but aren't sore. I've also noticed an improved sense of balance.

The only thing I wish was different was that there would be a variety of workouts on the tape, rather than just the three sections: Warm-up, Work-out, and Deep Relaxation.

Here's hoping Megan Garcia will put out another video, perhaps a bit more challenging than the first!

I amglad to have found this thread.

I personally like Kathy Smith but she's doing things with her tiny body that mine won't do.. a tape for plus sized people.. why didn't I think of that?

Glad to hear the reviews! I've been wanting a more "friendly" yoga DVD.
