Default Half & Half?

Anyone know if half and half is ok on induction? It only have 1 carb per 3 tbsp.

In the book, I believe only heavy cream is mentioned. Since half & half is half cream and half milk, it has more carbs than straight cream. Heavy cream is tastier, anyway.

Heavy cream would be the better choice on Atkins, unless you simply don't like it. In that case, you could probably do okay with half-and-half, as long as you didn't use more than a couple of tablespoonfuls a day. Half-and-half doesn't whip like heavy cream does, either.

According to the USDA site, half-and-half has .65 grams of carbs per tablespoonful, compared to .42 grams of carbs per tablespoonful of heavy cream. Here is a link to the USDA web site:

I used it for awhile, until I got used to heavy cream (and cut back on coffee to 1 cup per day... because heavy cream is expensive!) It didn't seem to affect me any, but every body is different.

I would say switch to heavy cream if you can, but if you can't, don't worry about it... unless you find you're not losing. (And as others have said, keep it under 3Tbsp per day if you can)

Good luck!

You can say that again!!

I switch between the two; I prefer the taste of heavy cream, but prefer the price of half and half! I have coffee daily and was using half and half exclusively for about the past two weeks and I don't think it's affected my weight loss.

I think the difference is minimal if you are using small amounts! I use half and half when I get coffee's outside somewhere, like starbucks. That's only a few times a week though. When cooking recipies I use heavy cream.

Just be careful with portions and you are fine!

The problem I have found with both is they often use fillers like carageean some people may have GI reactions to.

Guess I'm the only one who uses LIGHT cream? Not sure how the price compares to heavy, but I find it less overwhelming in my coffee than the heavy stuff, and I'm guessing its better carb-wise than half n half.

I use the heavy stuff also. It makes my coffee yummy and you don't seem to need as much.

I get my heavy cream at Sams - cheapest I have seen. It's $2.27 for a quart. Two quarts last me all week.

i'd use light cream if i could get my hands on it. i don't think my local supermarket carries it anymore.

i use half & half in my coffee at the office partially because it's cheaper, and because the useage-to-freshness ratio works better for me than heavy cream does. i'll use between 2-4oz in my coffee (i have a 24oz mug), 2 or 3 times a day. and since i plug everything into MY P.L.A.N., i don't worry about hidden carbs.

yes, i love my coffee.
