Next time I pass through fredricksberg I'm going to have to check that out.

Question for y'all: The mention of chicken fried steak makes me HUNGRY. Mostly what I love is the gravy.. which I THINK could be made low carb (cream mostly.. maybe with a thickener somewhere).. anyone have a receipe for the gravy?? Heck, I bet it would be great with just the gravy and sausage chunks...

.....can anyone tell it's near dinner time??

Mike

Josie, I'm not a cook.. yet, but it depends a LOT on what is put in it. If it's made from milk.. lots of sugars, if flour is used for thickener, lots of carbs. I know there are packaged brown gravies that aren't too bad.

Also, have made alfredo sauce a couple of times and that is VERY low carb if you make it yourself.. yum, so I figure you ought to be able to make other cream sauces (ala gravy for chicken fried steak) without too many carbs.

Looking forward to purusing that receipe!!

Where is Marion Texas?? ...and congrats on the baby!!! Is it your first??

Fluffy... are you in Texas or are you just being nice to us Texans??

Hi Mike(daddio),

My parents are native Texans. I was born in Washington state while my dad was stationed there while in the military. But I grew up in Wichita Falls,TX. I live in Ohio now, but I still have a lot of family in Texas. My mom and brother now live in Brownsville.

Cool... I was an Army Brat.. if you were in Washington, were you a Navy Brat??

...and once a Texan.. always a Texan . I was actually born in Heidleberg Germany (dad stationed there), but spent time in El Paso growing up (along with AZ, MI, VA, Germany, & MN). I've been living in Texas since 1990. Houston is NOT my cup of tea (too dang much humidity!!) but I love the mild winters, especially since I got my jeep wrangler!

I was a Navy AND an Air Force brat. My dad got out of the Navy when I was still a baby and then decided he wanted to go back into the military, but went into the Air Force. He was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio and at Shepherd AFB in Wichita Falls. Then he got out and bought a ranch. When I grew up, I married a guy who went into the Air Force and made a career out of it. We've moved all over the place. Except for him being stationed in Abiline for one year, I never lived in Texas again.

My dad retired from the Army as well, but unfortunately for me, they divorced before I was born and I never did get to visit him him until after he retired and moved back to the states. Would have been nice to go to Italy and Germany.

Daddio,

Thanks, yes this is my first baby.

Marion, TX is east of Austin & San Antonio near a town called New Braunfel & Seguin if those sound familar to you. The singer of Cross Canadian Ragweed lives in New Braunfels.

I don't like San Antonio or Austin because I hate the traffic. And Austin is a very crazy town. But I'll be having the baby in San Antonio wanted to make sure everything is well taken care of.

I'm also an army brat born in Missouri, but moved to TX at the age of 6 months so I never claimed Missouri as home. then move to Louisiana, then parents got divorced & went back to TX & I've been here since mid 80's so Texas will always be home to me.

I figured brown gravy didn't have much carb but I've been a little worried about white gravy. When I use it I use very small amout.

Mike,
I live in the little town between New Braunfels & Seguin. I love Lake Conroe, I haven't been there in a long time.

Greetings, Texans!
This is my first post, and I'm pleased to meet y'all.
I'm from Grand Saline, which is 70 miles east of Dallas. It's where the salt in your shaker comes from (Morton salt), and the beginning of the piney woods. I love it!
