Default Mojito Anyone?

This isn't a sweet, this is more of a treat. A libation!

Mojito's are originally from Cuba, and are made with white rum. They make a real hot day feel cool.

This is my low calorie, low carb version of a very high carb drink.

Mint leaves, whole, several.
1 wheel of a lime 1/2 inch round lime segment.
ice
good white rum 1.5 oz
Diet Sprite 4 oz

Take a tall glass and put your spearmint leaves in the glass, add the lime wheel and take a wooden spoon and mash them together. You want to release the mint oils and the lime oils together. Mash real good.

Now add ice, a very good white rum, and then diet sprite.

There you have it, a Mojito, sans the calories and carbs!!!

**** The original Mojito calls for club soda, and simple syrup (which is sugar and water melted into a thick sweet syrup, and then chilled)
I'm replacing the HIGH carb simple syrup with diet sprite.

Enjoy!

Hey! Sounds good. Especially now that I have some mint growing in my garden. I'll have to try it, sans the Rum because I can't tolerate alcohol much!

There is a local resteraunt in town where I can get a sugar free mojito. They take and mash the mint with sweet and low, with a little lime I think. then they use raspberry vodka and something else to give it a splash of red. mmmm

I am so glad I found this recipe! This is one of my fave drinks for summer. I was trying to think of how I could take out the sugar & I was planning on trying to melt some splenda in boiling water and try it that way but the diet sprite makes it sound so much easier!!

just a quick FYI, Davinci makes a SF simple syrup you could use if you want to stick to the original recipe.
PS --Yummers on the mojitos!
