Default Mint Julep, Anyone! Yummy!!

My latest 'invention' is what I call the 'Atkin's Mint Julep". I found these little bottles in a six pack called "Fruit 2 O" (a play on H20, I gather). The sweetener used is Splenda. Personally, I'm not crazy about the taste of Splenda, but at least it's not sugar and therefore consumable.

To mask the taste of the Splenda, I add a good squirt of my handy dandy lemon juice, and then add fress mint leaves and lots of ice. Yum!! It has really helped my sugar cravings in the evenings.

A great, thirst quenching summer drink too, and I appear to be developing a Southern drawl, yawl.....LOL!

Enjoy!

/Maddy

What was the actual flavor of the Fruit 2 O? Mint? We have only fruit flavors here (so far).

Did you try it with any alcohol? I'm researching low-carb drinks for a bar I frequent.

Hi Gotbeer!

I see you like beer, me too! I'm from Houston, and I could survive on Miller Lite and tortillas!!! Since Monday (when I started Adkins) I have not had a beer, but I really want one!!! I don't like that Micholobe Ultra, it tastes like dirty water! I am going to an icehouse for steak night tonight and I know I will be tempted for my regular cervecia. I do have a little willpower and I won't drink any beer until after my 14 days are up, but, after that, do you think it is ok to have Miller Lite?

Please let me in on your finding for different drinks. I am very intrested, I love to learn about new drinks and concoctions.

Happy Mixing!

Mich Ultra is growing on me - a squeeze of lime helps it.

Amstel Lite is slightly higher carb but better tasting.

Here's what I've come up with so far. Some of these I've tried; others are untested. The syrups mentioned are all DaVinci Gourmet SF syrups (available at www.davincigourmet.com)

The carb count is close to zero on all but the Kahlua.

Amaretto Sour (yummy)

1 Jigger Vodka
1 ½ Jiggers Amaretto Syrup
Fill with Hansen’s Citrus Soda

Cinnamon Schnapps (yummy)

1 Jigger Vodka
1 Jigger Cinnamon Syrup
Serve Chilled, over Ice, or with Soda.

Cherry Limeade (yummy)

1-2 Jiggers Vodka
½ - 1 Jigger Fresh Lime Juice
½ - 1 Jigger Cherry Syrup

Pour over ice in a tall glass; add soda water to fill

Grape Shot (I like 2 of these with over ice w/Perrier)

1 Jigger Vodka
½ Jigger Grape Syrup
½ Jigger Lime Juice

Margarita (untried)

1 Jigger Tequila
½ Jigger Lime Juice
½ Jigger Orange Syrup

LC Kahlua (copied from another thread)

36 packages artificial sweetener -- splenda
1 1/2 cups water
5 teaspoons decaffeinated instant coffee -- I use Folgers (5 to 6)
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups Vodka

Bring water to a boil and remove from heat. Add coffee and stir. Let
cool (important if you use Equal instead of Splenda). Add Splenda and
vanilla, stir than add vodka. Makes 3 1/2 cups at about 1.5 carbs per ounce. Mix
1:1 over ice with heavy cream. It is thinner than regular Kahula-but
using the heavy cream fixes that!

Cosmopolitan (untried)

1 ½ ounces El Tesoro Platinum Tequila
1/2 ounce Orange Syrup
1 ounces Cranberry Syrup
¾ ounce fresh lime juice
Lime twist

YUM

I will try the amaretto sour first! That is my favorite!!! I think the health food store that I go to has that syrup. I will check it out, then look online if I need to. It would be great if more bars would stock this stuff!

Thanks for all of the info, and I will try the Amstel Lite in 11 days!!!

Smile DiVinci Syrup

Hi Got Beer!

I got the Vanilla DaVinci Sugar Free Syrup yesterday at the grocery store. I put it in my coffee, and it was YUM! I will look for the other flavors at the health food store later this week.

I am looking forward to mixing more drinks (other than coffee) this weekend! Thanks for the advice on the subject!

Later, Janeen
