Saw that. That was what got me started... I am very very leary of ordering bread a $4.99 a loaf and being dissapointed again. After all, there were a bunch of folks in here raving about those nasty tortillas...

I love the bread, and the tortillas, I guess you could consider yourself lucky, now you don't have to worry about over doing it with bread. I like the Atkins rye bread...for whatever that is worth.

I'm also in Michigan and I have yet to find the bread. However, Meijer is starting to carry a lot of the Atkins products and they're a little cheaper than the health food stores. Are you anywhere near Saginaw? Because I DID find a health food store that carries the LaTortilla factory taco shells. I called there last weekend and they have them!! YAY! I plan to make a run up there on Saturday and have me a breakfast burrito on Sunday!!

Well, I'm not sure where in Seattle (my home town!), but as someone else mentioned, it's kept in the freezer section near the other frozen "natural" foods.......I'd check a few different stores....

ilive near seattle and fred myer and albertsons carry the frozen breads and safeway and top food, plus albertsons carry the muffins and bread mixes for the bread machines. there is a very good health food store in federal way called Marlenes Market that carries lots of low carb products.

Default I'd rather eat play-doh

Hasn't anyone noticed that low carb re-incarnations of foods on the banned list just don't taste right? In fact, after being off bread for so long, even real bread tastes like glue. Real bread may smell great, but I'd rather eat play-doh.

Are you looking for a 'bread' recipie as in something similar to white bread or whole wheat ? In any case, I have an awesome recipie for Zuchinni Bread. I swear, you can NOT tell the difference between it and ones made with regular flour. I am going to go find the link....

Lightbulb My Recipie

1 cup Atkins Bake Mix
2 tablespoons Vital Wheat Gluten
2 tablespoons ground flax
1 cup finely ground almonds (white, unblanched, plain)
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 medium finely shredded zuchinni
2 tsp vanilla
1 tablespoon cocoa
1 1/3 cup Splenda
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup + 3 tablspoons canola oil
4 eggs
1/8 cup water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees farenheit (sp ?), grease round cake pan.

Combine all dry ingredients in seperate bowl till very well blended.

Combine all wet ingredients and zuchinni in another bowl, mixing well.

Add wet ingredients to dry a bit at a time, blending until there are little to no lumps (may take a few minutes).

Batter will be thick. Pour into cake pan. Bake at 350 for about 20-25 minutes or until cake is golden and knife inserted in center comes out clean. Run knife around edge of pan and invert onto wire rack. Cool before cutting into 1 1/2 inch slices. Each slice has approx 3.7 carbs pers slice (anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong about the carb count).

I also tried a slice of this toasted with almond butter and it was YUMMY!!! I cut another big slice for DH and topeed it with cinnamon flavoured whip cream and he was amazed !

Let me know how you like it. HTH .

No more experiments with FrankenBread!!!

I agree. Seems everyone's taste is so different.

Since beginning Atkins I have come to the conclusion I have a wheat allergy anyway...so the motivation to *find* an LC bread really isn't there for me.

BUT, I did buy and try Prairie Grains Spelt bread (at 11g per slice) and I will have a slice once or twice a month. Good to make REAL french toast with....

As an aside: People who are allergic to wheat can sometimes eat Spelt as it is an original non-hybridized form of wheat. Just FYI

The Whole Foods around here has a bread in the freezer called "Food for Life" that I like pretty well. It tastes like real bread -- real health food store bread, but still.

Also I agree about the Le Carb tortillas, they do have a cardboard texture. I like "Adios Carb" tortillas. 6 carbs per tortilla and even my BF, a professional baker, agrees they are indistinguishable from regular tortillas when filled.

Hi Sarah! That is the kind of info I was looking for...Have to check into that...

Renee - LOVE your faerie! I have a Celtic tattoo on my ankle! I also think I have a definite wheat allergy! Before lowcarb, always on prescription acid reflux medicine. I have not had to take any since I started lowcarbing again. NOW, I had one slice of my complete protein bread (sprouted everything in it, including wheat) yesterday for an open faced sandwich and had instant heartburn...dang!

Maybe I'll look for the Spelt, like Kayyaker said...
