Default Salami and Candida diet

Hi all I'm wondering if anyone can help me with some salami i've found, can anyone tell me if it's safe to eat while on the candida diet?

The brand is Verkerks and these are the ingredients:

Meat, salt, spices (garlic 0.1%), dextrose, antioxidant (316), preserative (sodium nitrite), culture, smoke.

Nutritional information:

Per 100g:
Energy: 1298kj
Protein: 18.8g
Fat: 23.7g
- Saturated: 10.3g
Carbohydrate: 10.3g
- Sugars: 0g
Sodium: 1216mg

I know it's got Dextrose in it which is bad but it's listed after garlic which only has 0.1% so the Dextrose must be such a tiny amount. Also the sugars list as 0, so that means that the remaining 10.3g of carbohydrate would be made up of fibre and starch.. I'm I right?

Thanks for any help

What I say is try it...see if your symptoms come back. If they do, it's not going to be horrible since there are no actual sugars. I'd try a different brand, though, without carbs. Either way, it just depends on how sensitive your body is.

I dont' think so because good salami is mold cured. That means that as it ages properly a coating of mold is desired for preservation. I don't have the actual explination correct, but I just watched a special about this. So I stay away from it.

Good to know! I usually stay away from it because of the added sugars and alcohol, but this is new to me!

In all the literature I have read on Candida, eating any meat other than straight beef, pork, chicken, turkey, lamb, etc. is just not a good thing. If it has any additives like sugar, alcohol, chemical preservatives, and/or has been cured (like bacon or ham) then it is not acceptable on a Candida Eating Plan. Whole foods are preferred. And if you can find meat that is from animals that have Not been injected with hormones, that would be ideal.

So basically that means we definitely can NOT eat the following:
  • Bacon
  • Sausage
  • Cured Ham (not sure about Fresh Ham.. check the label)
  • Cold cuts (unless they have no additives like really good brands of Roast Beef)
  • Hot dogs
  • Lox (that's Smoked Salmon for those who have never heard the term before)
  • any others I may have forgotten

Hope this is helpful for those struggling with what to eat.

I was just about to post this! Whole foods is the rule of thumb for sure!
