Default Camping with the Kiddos

Husband and I are purchasing a piece of land and I intend to camp on it with our fourteen month old and six year old most of the summer, at least 3-4 days at a time, possibly longer. I have a wrap to use to carry the little one most of the time as we go foraging and whatnot, and the 6 year old can have a little more free reign. Entertainment isn't something I'm worried about. I do have a few questions for anyone who has done this kind of (crazy) thing before. Is it possible to at least partially potty train the little one while we are out in the "wilderness"? Any tips? I've camped plenty, and am not really worried about the logistics, just the pain in the butt aspect of diapers.

You may want to look into "elimination communication." We've been part time EC'ing with our little guy since he was about 2 months old; EC is such a great tool that it can be started at any age. The concepts are different than traditional "potty training." I think that babywearing has been the one biggest help with us EC'ing.

I really liked Ingrid Bauer's book Diaper Free: The Gentle Wisdom of Natural Infant Hygiene.

DiaperFreeBaby is a great online resource to get started with, and there is a whole sub-forum devoted to EC over at mothering.com.

Taking your little ones on a camping trip like that sounds great! And being in the great out-of-doors seems like a wonderful opportunity to begin EC. Good luck !
