Yes, it's true, you can eat horseshoes again!!

For those of you who are at the proper stage (I am not), you could start with a slice of low-carb bread, toasted. Then add one Jennie-O savory seasoned turkey burger (buy 'em frozen, toss 'em on the Foreman Grill). Top that with turnip fries, which sounded so scary when I read about them here, but man they are really awesome! I also grill turnip fries on the Foreman Grill, with a bit of seasoned salt and/or garlic powder and a quick burst of cooking spray. Top the whole thing with Cheese Whiz and bacon bits, microwave for about a minute, and dig IN. Oh, my, GOSH this was so amazingly delicious I could hardly stand it! I had to come online and share it right away, since I've found so many fantastic LC recipes here already. Yum, and yum again!

Total carbs, when using one turkey burger and about 1/2 C. turnips, a measly ol' FIVE. Yes, you read correctly. This is now my very favorite lunch, ever.

Edited to add: hopefully in my haste I posted this in the correct forum. I suppose this would be considered a main dish, but it's so fast I put it here because I am always here looking for quick lunch ideas. Three kids, work-at-home...who has time to cook??

Do you ever get the email news letter "Mr. Bad Foods"? The most enjoyable part is where readers email in thier artery clogging favorite foods, or at least ones they have seen. This looks like a healthier version of something you'd see on there.

The only change I might make if I try this is the cheeze wiz. There is just something about neon cheese in a can I've never been comfortable with. Think american or cheddar would be best?

Hey now, it's cheese in a *jar*! LOL

Hmm, if I didn't do cheese whiz (yeah, I'll admit it's kind of scary) I think I'd try American first. Just because you know that's what was on the original! I'll bet cheddar would be good too, though. I'm not terribly picky about my cheese, as long as I get some!

What do you mean by "turnip fries"? And, how do you make them? Thanks for the recipe ... it sounds good.

You cut up a turnip into (after peeling) into 'steak-size' fries and deep fry for about 8-10 minutes. That's it. Or, you could bake them but no idea at what temp. and how long. Do a search in the veggie/side dish section.

Default Turnip fries

Turnip fries Very simple, but at least it shows temp and time.

By the way, the carb count I listed was if you do NOT use low-carb bread. But I think a slice is about five carbs or so, right? So still, if you're using bread, it would be right around ten carbs. Not too shabby!
