Default Glucophage weaning and PCOS

After being on Glucophage XR for two years and two months, and low carb for seven months, I weaned myself off of Glucophage this week. Enough was enough. I cured my hypoglycemia, my periods became regular, and I felt unbelievably better. The only difference I've seen is increased hunger. Otherwise, I feel the same. I've also been on Aldactone for most of this time and tried to get off of that, but unwelcome hair growth ballooned and I reluctantly got back on the medication.

When my endo hears about the Glucophage, she'll go through the roof. Honestly, though, I can't stomach the idea of being on medication for the rest of my life when diet and exercise are just as effective.

Anyway, I would like to know if anyone has been able to stop taking Glucophage or Aldactone with LC dieting. If so, what side effects did you feel? Did any PCOS symptoms come crawling back?

I have not actually started it yet and I am iffy about taking it, but my doc said that I would only need to take it for a few months and it wouldnt be anything permanent. She said it would speed up my weight loss and that I am not getting the full benefits of low carbing because of my IR.

Good luck with going off of it. I am with you on the idea of not wanting to take meds for the rest of your life.

If you can use diet/exercise to control your PCOS, then that's wonderful! Some of us, though, are unable to. I know that I will be on metformin for the rest of my life but that's okay. I still LC and exercise but it's just not enough to combat my insulin resistant cells.
