Default PCOS question. Help!

I have PCOS and have had for many years. At 14 years old my weight rocketed and then came the hair...oh my, the hair...

Anyway.

I do NOT want children. I am not maternal in any shape or form and I just know that the kiddie path is not for me. I want to go on metformin to see if that helps the weight/hair thing but I am terrified that I'll get pregnant as I hear people say how great it is for fertility! Can you still be on the Pill and take Met.?

Is anyone else like me? (probably not! lol)

Thanks!

I am much like you. No children for me.

I am on Metformin and recently was on Zovia, the birth control pill, for a little over a year. It is safe to be on both at the same time. I decided to go off the pill because I do not like taking hormones. With Metformin, the hair on my head quit falling off and the hair elsewhere wasn't so thick. Plus, I lost over twenty pounds by going on Metformin.

Rest assured, it is quite safe and many women take both medications.

THANK YOU!
I am fed up of my hair falling out. It's very annoying! The hair on my face has thinned a lot since going Atkins but it's still there and awful and stubbly. Yuck.

It's off to my GP to get the Met! I hope.

*fingers crossed*

It's perfectly safe to be on both, most definitely. However, hormonal birth control does go a against what the met is trying to accomplish (regulate your hormones). That doesn't mean you can't take both, it just means that it may take longer to see results or it may take a higher dosage of met to do it's job.

Have you thought about a non-hormonal form of BC? Something like the non-hormonal IUD if you want something long-lasting but not quite the permanance of tubal ligation.

To be honest, I wouldn't be bothered if the whole shebang came out. My 'plumbing' has never worked right and just causes me problems! lol.

I think I'm going to make an appointment with the Womens' Clinic and see what they have to say as well.
