Thumbs up Lettuce wraps - who knew they could be so satisfying?

I love bread. There, I said it. Pita bread, fresh baguettes, french bread, you name it. The mere mention of a lettuce wrap would make me roll my eyes and insist that there is just no way that could be filling.

Boy was I wrong!

I just started back low carbing after several abandoned attempts in the past and since I'd decided to really go all in this time, I had my very first lettuce wrap EVER for lunch today. Well, technically 2 wraps.

My lunch:

- 1/2 avocado, sliced and sprinkled w/ a wee bit of sea salt and lemon juice
- 2 pastrami and muenster cheese lettuce wraps (1 romaine lettuce leaf, 1 slice cheese and 2 slices of pastrami in each)

Oh my GOSH they were good. The crunch of the lettuce was surprisingly satisfying and the taste was incredible.

What kind of lettuce do you use for your wraps and what are some of your favorite combinations?

Cheers!

Cynthia

Good for you! I like Romaine best but plain iceberg is easier to wrap without breaking - cabbage is great and even sturdier.

Iceburg always breaks for me. I've been thinking that blanched cabbage leaves might be good.

I love lettuce wraps too. A couple favorites are

- chicken shawarma wraps
- salami, tomato, mayonnaise
- bacon, tomato, mayonnaise

I also like a variation listed here a couple years ago where you cut thin slices of jicama and use them as "bread" for BLTs:

Asian lettuce wraps are delicious too:

i LOVE lettuce wraps! my favorite combos are:

1. smoked salmon cream cheese and tomato/sprouts/onion
2. turkey and laughing cow cheese with mustard and sprouts
3. chicken fajita strips with salsa and guacomole
4. thai style chicken wraps
5. chicken, swiss and bacon

most often, i stick with turkey and vary the veggies/spreads- have this twice a week if not more.

It helps to cut the core out of the iceberg head by cutting out a cone at the base. Then pry the leaves off from that cut opening where the leaves are thicker.
