Thanks again.

From what I have read; the induction phase last 2 weeks.

Coming back to induction after 2 years of being off low carb... this list was helpful yet again. There are a few contradictions; but as I recall, it was confusing in his book also.

I am not sure about that either... the processed food thing, but it might be because labels are rarely accurate. When I first did Atkins years ago, I was literally only eating meat (usually steak, chicken and tuna), lettuce, olives, and bacon and eggs for breakfast for induction. To be honest, the no alcohol rule killed me lol. I drank coffee every morning, but only a half a cup and dropped 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I think once you get through induction, you will find your own way of eating and adding what you like. Being I love Italian, bread was my downfall as well as pasta and cheese.

QUOTE=Badcarbs]Just started atkins , and am in the induction phase , what i dont understand is all this talk of processed food etc etc . If carbs are all that matter then what diff does it make ? If i am aiming below 20g of carbs a day what does it matter what i eat aslong its below that level .....

For example i have salami in the fridge the pack is 250 gram total and has 1gram of carb per 100 grams so the whole pack is only 2.5 carbs , why does it matter if its processed ?

Also what is this flu phase everyone goes on about it but doesnt explain what it is in any clear definition ???[/QUOTE]

Using processed foods, or for that matter, fast foods too, are a personal choice. Many choose to avoid nitrates, artifical sweeteners and preservatives, soybean oil, etc for health reasons, but they are not prohibited on Atkins (or they could never sell their bars or frozen meals).

Not everyone experiences the "Atkins Flu", here is a description and tips to avoid it: http://www.atkins.com/Program/Phase...AT-BURNING.aspx

I want to make a suggestion for people who are new to Low Carb or Atkins and who eat a fair amount of carbs/sugar in their diet: ease into low carb/low sugar slowly.

A few years ago I tried The Sonoma Diet, which is fairly low-carb and allows nothing with sugar (similar to Atkins, no starchy veggies, no fruits, etc). I couldn't do it. After about 5 days I felt like I was going insane. Going "cold turkey" off sugar and most carbs was just impossible for me, and I had a fairly normal diet beforehand.

A few years later, I decided to try a low-carb diet again. However, based on my excruciating experience with The Sonoma Diet, I eased into it. Over a period of a couple of months, I slowly reduced the amount of carbs and sugar I ate until I was eating only around 100 grams of carbs/sugars per day. Then I reduced it down to 50 grams. Then 30 grams. At that point, doing Atkins Induction was not a problem for me at all. I merely had to take nuts and seeds out of my diet at that point. I found that I could stay in induction for more than two weeks without a problem at all. Eating out was sometimes challenging, but planning for it helped.

Not sure how others will view this approach, but it worked for me. Now, if I wind up going off low-carb (for holidays or whatever), I use this approach to ease myself back into Ketosis over a period of a couple of weeks before actually starting Induction again.

By the way, I have never experienced the Atkins/Keto "Flu." But sometimes I do get a headache for a day or two.

I have/had to go "cold turkey" all the way to ultra low carbs (6 grams daily) right off or I would never get rid of the cravings for the killer carbs (sugar, pasta, bread etc) and I would not lose the weight -- which is one of the major reasons for doing this WOE.

I agree completely. I have cut out sugar, but even so, it's amazing how virtually ANYTHING with higher carbs than I want to do right now can awaken other sugar cravings in a very sneaky way. Why operate at cross purposes with how this WOE works? A lot of people (here) are working hard to re-create a semblance of how they used to eat, but that didn't work for me, it just stalled things and kept my cravings alive and well AND....weight loss was at a crawl. There was no getting around it, and I'm tired of the snail's pace of weight loss. Otherwise, losing weight becomes a lifestyle whereas I want maintenance and sane eating to be my lifestyle....so got to get that weight off first. Why drag it out?

Default Atkins diet

Hi, I did this diet about 10yr ago and can not remember what I need to do. I know that induction is first, how long for?
I recall having to drink diet lemonade as this helps with cramps.
I think I ate Frankfurter sausages, meat and cheese. I could really do with a plan and then a food list. Can you advise?

This thread that you posted your questions in, has the food list for Induction on the first page. Induction lasts 2 weeks.
Maybe it'd be a good idea for you to re-read your book.

GOOD POST!
I am the same. cold turkey. cut the ties that keep me fat.

I also do not want a snail's pace. I want goal NOW! I will not try to re-create my old lifestyle of eating because it didn't work then for keeping me thin and it sure will not keep me lean now. No more fooling myself. I know what must be done, I will just do it.

I will not drag it out either!

Default 5th introduction day not losing

I do exactly like the book says and ive done Atkins before. I eat omlette with veggies and add a bit of cheese or not cooked in coconut oil. Lunch most of thetome salad with chicken or tuna or other proteins. Supper meat n veggies. In the day I can use mayo...extra virgin olive oil...coconut oil...ceser dressing which has 2carbs no sugar... 2 black coffee...I do not cheat whatsoever... So that is my basic day. Oh and I do no that whatever I go as diet or exercise, I have one of them bodies/system that I have to triple the efforts.. just one of them.

cheers for inputs .

Hello I am very new here and to this woe. During induction can we have dill pickles how about pickled banana peppers? Would these count as vegetables? Sorry for all the question I just really want to do this right.
