Fifteen years ago, I stopped going to my assigned Registered Dietition after first visit because she knew s#/^. Tossed material in trash and followed DANDR. Lots of crackers and peanut butter would have lead to more insulin injections.

This is how RD are trained, though a couple recently are on board with low carb, which is shocking as low carb was not okayed until very recently in US.

I don't know what makes her not average. Maybe she's tall or something?

Looking at her homepage--she deals with eating disorders. I think that can predispose you to be skeptical about any sort of restricted eating. Here's the thing--various protocols that are unhealthy in the underweight can be reasonable in other conditions. If an anorexic counts out seven pecans daily and eats them for lunch, weighs everything, tracks everything, that's all part of their illness. Ritualistic eating can help to control food intake--it's just that for some people, that's horribly inappropriate. If a type I diabetic does this, and eats in a way that minimizes their insulin requirements, while providing sufficient nutrition for their body--that's the best approach against their illness. The ketogenic diet as applied to epilepsy, 90 percent of calories as fat, would be ridiculous if it wasn't therapeutic.

RD really seems to stand for Registered Dogmatists. Following their advice has lead to the obesity & diabetes crisis.

Low carb hasn't caused any of the problems she mentions for me, tho I had an eating disorder years before I discovered LC. Between the "restrictive" diet & OA, I've gotten much better. Some of these RDs sound like idiots.

For some people, me for instance, tracking everything I eat brought order to my once disordered eating, the kind of eating that was the result of a disordered metabolism. And then there's all her nonsense about the dangers of low carb diets. This stuff shouldn't even be published. It's just plain wrong.

Funny thing is, that perceptions are changing among the general public even with so called experts like this lady.

Four years ago, when I first went low carb, there was a lot of doubt that just eating fewer carbs worked. Today, I find there's widespread acceptance that insulin is the obesity hormone. Lots of fat people are not willing to cut out their carbs but many (most?) of them are at least open to the idea that carbs are making them fat. At least that's been my experience.
