Default Anybody read Delay don't Deny?

It's OMAD with zero calories and zero sweetness beverages during the fasting period.

I'm starting it today because the OMAD allows for some carbs which I've discovered I need to keep Serotonin levels up.

Clean keto and super low carb killed my adrenals and caused huge stress response for me.

So, in my opinion, it's very similar to Rachel Heller's personal weight loss story, not the CAD plan in the book where there are 2LC meals and a RM. Not sure if she drank diet beverages during her fasting periods but possibly.

I'm going to avoid any sweetness for 23 hours and eat the family meal as usual. I might have my coffee with cream at supper, have to monitor if it will keep me awake.

We are not dessert people so that won't be an issue. Also, we naturally cook and eat semi LC as we've come to prefer those types of recipes. Occasionally, will have something pretty carby just because.

The author has a podcast as well: https://ifpodcast.com/

I have not read it, but I did OMAD quite a bit last year. I thought it was going to be my long-term solution. My hair fell out for the first time ever, no matter how much weight I'd lost in the past. I suspect it was either not enough protein or not enough calories. Both, perhaps.

See this post, advice from Dr. Fung's IDM program: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showpost...2&postcount=990

But many are also shocked to learn it is not a form of fasting as we define it. It’s actually a form of eating; eating one meal a day.

The problem with OMAD is in its repetition. Eating one meal a day is a pattern easily recognized by the body and by doing the same behavior every day, the body does what it does naturally; it adapts. And it’s this adaptation that causes the rub; the body simply slows its Base Metabolic Rate (BMR).

At first when you start OMAD, the BMR stays very high. But after a while BMR inevitably slows down because it does take the body some time to adapt, but it does. First with energy levels, then with other metabolic operations and at some point, as we see quite consistently, BMR just slows down, and the inevitable plateau follows.

If you are trying to lose weight, this is not a good situation. In fact, what we need is just the opposite; a way to speed up BMR. SO how can we do this? There are a few ways…

Alternate Day Fasting, mixing up fasting patterns during the week, and finally longer fasts. OMAD, coupled with a day or two of skipping meals altogether will do it too.

Confounding this argument, there are some instances where OMAD will work. First, there is the person who only has 20-30 pounds to lose. In this case, OMAD works well. Next, there is the class of people who have NO history of yo-yo dieting. The third group are those who are at goal weight, and OMAD is just a good way to do weight maintenance.

Fast on, my friends! Don’t get caught in the OMAD trap! Mix it up

I'd like to do Alternate Day fasting, but I seem to lack the discipline lately. I am eating in an 8 hr window though.

Hi, glad you chimed in. I'm grateful for you posting this.

I think this is a good idea, previously, when I've tried OMAD, I had good results doing a 36 hour fast a couple of times.

I also plan, maybe twice a month, to have regular eating days with 3 meals. I've learned that when I feel extra super hungry that I should eat. Maybe not hi carb but LCHF which I naturally gravitate to.

I'm planning a decadent cheese ball for Friday, may have a two or 3 hour window, I'll see.

Hi Deb !!

I did OMAD for 37 days, with a couple days of 2 meals as planned; I liked it. Not long term though, as I noticed any significant amount ( as my body measured that) caused me to fall asleep so I really had to stay LC to avoid this.

I have low serotonin issues and regularly use 5-HTP to build up serotonin levels, then back it up with St Johns Wort as the SSRI. See Dr Daniel AMen's book Healing ADD for the details. This works for both my son and I. Though he can eat potatoes, etc to help. He starts the morning with the support supplements.

Thanks Ms. Arielle for those support ideas. I'll look into the both of them. Do you take them at any special time of day?
