Question Green Tea and water

Ok, I know we are supposed to drink a ton of water. That's fine with me really, I like water.

My question is: does green tea count AS water?? I've really been drinking a lot of it lately... I use the real stuff in a tea bag, steep it up, and pour over ice and add a little splenda.

Hi Shelley J
According to the DANDR, any beverage that is not just water does not count as water. That's my understanding anyway.

I think that green tea and other herbal teas (non-caffeinated) can be counted as water. Also club soda, mineral water & spring water. I should go back and read the book about that.

My guess is No, not if it's caffinated.

Green tea is an excellent, healthy beverage - but to get a lot of the benefit of it you need to use the caffinated variety - decaf just doesn't cut it. Also, adding milk will negate a lot of it's beneficial properties.

Teas and coffee will actually dehydrate you a little, so no they can't be counted as water. Go ahead and drink up on green tea for the health benifits, just drink your water too

Sometimes it helps to have a cup of each on hand, that way you can reach for a sip of something cool between sips of tea. It is also a duretic, so making sure to drink alot of water, and sipping the green tea will help to prevent excess water weight.
