Default A survey on diet

Canadian doctor Yoni Freedhoff (Weighty Matters blog) has invited readers to participate in a survey from the University of Otago. This is a follow-up survey to generate statistics about success and sustainability.

If you'd care to participate, you can find the survey Here.

I usually avoid online stuff like this, but it seemed important to support the integrity and sustainability of low-carb as a "non-fad" reality for many people.

I filled it out. The more successful low carbers who fill it out the greater the possibility it will be noticed. It's quick and easy.

I filled out the survey, but didn't like that it did not ask if and how long I've been maintaining. I've lost 60 lbs beginning 20 years ago on vLC/vHF, but have been maintaining most of that time, not losing 3 lbs/yr for 20 yrs. But at least it is clear that I am not hungry and can follow it forever. I don't just think I can follow it for the long term, I know I can.

I did the survey too. Clicked on both the "low carb" and the "keto" diets because, while I'm probably not strictly keto most of the time, I wanted to make it clear that, for me "low carb" is definitely a whole lot less than the 100 to 150g/day that many people say is "low carb."

I agree with Deirdra that it would have been nice to be able to say how long one has been maintaining my weight loss. But, at least I was able to make it clear that I've been following lowcarb/keto for five full years now and quite happily intend to follow it for the rest of my life!

If nothing else, maybe if enough of us respond to the survey, it'll put the lie to the accepted maxim that "low carb/keto is unsustainable."
