Nobody should go below 1200 calories / day. Your body needs 1200 calories / day to function & that's without exercise!

I find that that calories are needed. I eat boatloads, continue losing weight and the more I eat the more energetic I feel. I get this strange, lighter-than-air feeling and even when I breath it feels like I'm soaring.

But only with high cal, low carb, high-to-moderate fat.

That theory is based on a high carb/low fat diet.

I actually asked Dr. Eades about this on his blog - and he said as long as people were eating adequate protein, they could go below 1200 calories without muscle loss. He further acknowledged that there are some people who have to do this in order to lose weight. I am one of those people.

I try to stay around 1300 now, it's really hard to do and get in 30 carbs which I am not doing very well at. Can someone let me know what they are eating to get in the carbs and still enough fat and 1200 calories. i work out an hour 3 times per week. Thanks

I guess all bodies are different. "Once upon a time" I ate well under 1200 calories a day for about 6 months & ended up hospitalized. I was told not to go under 1200. I know several people who wouldn't think of eating over 1200, but they are anorexic.

For BringIt and LMMS - I copy/pasted this from my journal - it's from last weekend/Monday. I was feeling a bit of flu last week, so one of the days was quite high in carbs - but the calories are still pretty low.

When I started Atkins, I was eating at least twice as many calories; my appetite has gone down as I've trudged along this road of happy destiny. I work out a minimum 4 days a week, 90 minutes average - 45 - 60 minutes of weights/strength training bookended by 30 - 45 minutes of cardio. I stopped "bonking" when I added protein shakes to my diet. See my journal for contents of those.

I have a trainer and get good feedback on my performance, so I feel comfortable with what I'm doing. Meal 2 is usually between 11 and 12 each day...but sometimes I wait until 2 or 3. I break the fast with cream in my coffee in the early AM. Last meal is about 7 or 8, after I get home from the gym.

I don't need a ton of food for energy right now because I'm in ketosis and I'm effectively burning my own fat stores for that purpose. For me, that's the point of doing this thing.

sunday food:

meal 1: 2 eggs, 3 sausage, 1/2 cup of canteloupe
meal 2: steak and salad
meal 3: 1 cup greek salad

monday food:

meal 1: coffee/cream
meal 2: a pint of blueberries
meal 3: 1 cup spaghetti sauce and 2 oz parmesan cheese

I'm fighting off a cold and have a weird appetite. Don't know quite what I needed all those carbs for, but it worked out alright at the end of the day.

today's menu:

meal 1: coffee/cream
meal 2: bunless cheeseburger, Wendy's double - salad
meal 3: two eggs, scrambled, w/ parmesan
