Processed food is just unhealthy and unnecessary. I like my occasional sandwich with high-fiber of rye bread, but I would never eat something like a cookie with sugar, even though I'm sure I could with insulin.

When I do a 4000 foot hike up a mountain I can skip insulin and eat two chocolate chip cookies an hour - but not on the way down

Betty so sorry about all that is happening in your family.

My prayers are with you.

Robll - I noticed I need to take carbs when exercising as well.

I played one round of golf; actually a 1/2 round or 9 holes.

I started off fine and around the 5th hole ran out of energy.

By the 9th hole I knew I was definitely low on BG.

I didn't realize it had dropped into the 40s. I quickly took several glucose tabs and brought it back up.

So now I use Oreo cookies whenever I am exercising, walking, whatever to keep my BG up above 70. I am fine all the way down to 70. I do notice 60s. I can feel it, so then I take action.

I use glucose tabs or Powerade because I know exactly how much will raise my BG X number of points. They also work faster and have fewer calories. It's not uncommon for type 1s (and probably type 2s) to gain weight by overcorrecting lows with food and then have to correct a high. It is very easy to give into the powerful hunger driven by low blood sugar.
