Default question about stevia and xylitol

Hi all,

I'm still reading the SPP book but am planning on starting when the fall semester (grad school) starts in another week and a half.

I know Dr. S is down on artificial sweeteners for health reasons and in SPP she recommends only two - stevia and xylitol. I've tried to switch over from liquid splenda to stevia several times during my low carb career but I've never been able to take the licorice bitter aftertaste. I like things sweet, so I probably put too much, but it seemed when I tried putting a little it was never sweet enough.

Anyway, I'm thinking that mixing stevia with xylitol might work, as I've read on these boards that mixing sweeteners works really well and stevia is good for this. However, I don't know much about xylitol. Is it a sugar alcohol? Why does Dr. S recommend it over other sweeteners?

Has anyone tried mixing these? How were the results?

Thanks,
Tam

The brand of liquid Stevia I use is really wonderful. It has no aftertaste whatsoever. I even put it in a little water or cream to use on strawberries! It's called NuNaturals and I got it at GNC. And, also, I too notice it seems to take more Stevia than I thought it would to sweeten coffee and tea.

No I haven't needed to try mixing sweetners as I am happy with Stevia. I'm not at home so I can't tell you what brand that I use. Marty

Thanks for the replies. Elle, thank you for the brand recommendation. I have a GNC across the street from me so I can pop out and see if they have it.
