Default A request from the maintainer's and PSMF's (and general low-carb, low-cal folks)

Many of us are exchanging recipes in journals that are both low-carb and low-cal, but they get lost and lots of folks don't get to see them. Unfortunately, while the low carb recipes are great and I loved them mightly (and hope to again someday) we really need low-carb/low-cal recipes.

Would it be possible to have a low-carb/low-cal recipe area? It'll probably be low traffic enough we could combine our main dishes and desserts and everything into one spot.

Or do you have another idea where we could share our recipes?

Many thanks!

Nancy

Let me think about it, and feel free to bump if it takes me more than a week to get back to you

Wow! What a great idea!!

Many of us hard-core low-carbers are coming to believe/learn/realize that losing those last few (10?) pounds requires more than the classic low-carb approach of not needing to count calories: For many, getting to goal requires watching calories, too. Having a recipe subsection focused on low-carb/lower-cal recipes would be soooo helpful for such members! I get very frustrated looking for sweet treats that are low-carb because they're also (for me) very high in calories and thus counterproductive in my fight to lose those last few pounds.

Please say yes!

I am going to second this request. Even Dr Atkins commented that some people have to watch their calories too, so for us, and for maintainers, having a recipe area for low cal-lowcarb recipes and tips would be terrific.

Tamarian?

Not sure how to bump--this was the best I could do!

Any chance of giving this some serious thought?

Thanks!

Best, sona

Best way to bump is to reply, no need for new threads

I'm still thinking about it.

I'll think aloud for a bit, just so someone may have some solutions

It would be easy to ceate one sub-forum to accomodate lower cal LC recipes. The problem with that is once it gets bigger, it's hard to group together as entrees, salads, desserts, soups, etc.

So one solution might be a technical one, where recipes are posted with special "tags" that would make them easier to identify, and search, while they reside in the proper category (salad, soup, poultry, etc.).

Still thinking, but if anyone has any ideas, feel free to jump in

I don't like the idea of more specialty sub-forums, since it gets too hard to classify them. A low-cal recipe might still be perfectly good for all plans. I prefer the idea of tagging them. Perhaps there's a way of doing multiple tags, so that you could have other "special needs" tags, too, like "induction friendly", "vegetarian", etc.

Is there a handy vBulletin hack to handle this?

If there were a way that one could search for and find them, that would be fine. Its just that people will have to be very disciplined about marking them as lower calorie.

Yes, I think someone also suggested the same for SBD.

The idea of using tags within the existing categories seems fine (to me, I mean--just my $.02!).

I realize that at first--the learning curve--a number of people would probably title their "lower-cal" recipes without the proper tag(s), which means they (the recipes) would get kinda lost in the shuffle. But eventually the concept would likely get ingrained, and posters would remember to use the proper
tag(s) to head up their recipe titles--and then people seeking a lower-cal, low-carb recipe would spot the title right away, whether it's in desserts, main meals, breads, wherever.

What kind(s) of tags did you have in mind? How would they work?

Best, sona

The easiest, and lest verbose, tag method would be little icons next to the recipe title. Similar to the post icons, but would be unique to specify any special information about the recipe.

All recipes are lowcarb, so this needs no special icon. Categories are already there, so no need for those.

So if the recipe is specifically written for SBD or LF, etc, each can have a special post icon to distinguish it. This way you can browse in the category's sub-forum, and the icons next to the thread (recipe) titles will visually tell you if it's a specific type.

It'd be nice if it were text so one could search for them and have a list popup of lower-cal recipes, so you don't have to browse through page after page to find them.
