Exclamation The Irony...

One of my children is a Type I diabetic. Compared to her peers, her diet is extremely restrictive when it come to carbs. It's amazing how high in carbs-- all sugar and starch-- most childrens' diets are... my daughter takes in around 120-150 carbs per day and her friends are worried she will waste away (she, like my son, is in great shape and carries no fat)!! Fortunately, my ex-wife and I have always put a focus on eating right, limiting sweets/junk/fast-food, exercise, etc. When she was diagnosed she adjusted as well as I ever could have hoped... I can't imagine how hard it would be for kids who are used to eating so much junk.

But it has actually been good for her to see me get a taste of my own medicine when it comes to the diet restrictions. I've always eaten as she does, but had no idea that she knew how many extra carbs I was taking in when she wasn't around. Kids know these things!

We never allowed too much snacking with our kids. At one point several years ago I used to make almond milk for them and only on a weekend were they allowed a desert. It went fine. Then they grow up and get junk at their friends house and after they get a job, it gets worse. I have 6 kids ages 19-1 1/2. I can still controll the little ones but the bigger kids, well they are on there own when it comes to foods now

all u can do is teach them the best u can while they are young and hope they make good choices when they grow up. this goes for everything. 120-150 carbs a day- even for a kid- seems like alot to me. my son- who is not LCing, just eating healthy eats less than that- probably about 100 a day. but he's only 3, so, maybe its different, i dunno. you're right- kids do know best- even when i offer my son ice cream, he rather have jello. hehe. plus, he makes me get up and walk every morning.
