Thumbs up This might be old news but .....

Hi Everyone!

As I say, this might not be news but to me it is.

I picked up the most fantastic book in TARGET on Saturday. It is Dr Atkins New Diet Cookbook. There is not one mention of Atkins Bake Mix and it is full of really great recipes that have readily available ingredients!!

It may have been printed for the UK market as it is priced in pounds on the back (by the way it cost $22).

I'll give you an example of some of the recipes - hold on to your hats!

Chunky Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream
Macadamia Nut Candy
Peanut Butter Cookies
Marzipan
Brownies
Gnocchi
Turkey Sausage Patties
Chicken croquettes
Cheese sauce
Cauliflower Bake ......Oh, I could go on and on!!!!!

It's such a great find for me because I love to cook but was frustrated by the Atkins recipes asking for Atkins Bake mix all the time!!

It has a recipe for Hot Chocolate which is absolutely delicious - especially with this cold weather!

Soy Flour seems to feature quite a bit but I know that Soy Flour can be obtained from any health food shop so that's ok. The other thing is that the book has a lot of ice cream recipes and it does mention that it would be worth investing in a cheap ice-cream maker for those recipes - I'll have to have a look out for one!

Bye for now!

I found it too but in NZ its expensive at $30.00 - I like the "raw" ingredients that are used - not a bake mix in sight, and the other good thing is that quantities are in metric -
There's a neat pie casing to make with egg whites

Default bake mix

great about the new recipes, will keep my eyes open. BTW, if you do need ATkins bake mix, GNC stores do sometimes stock it, but if not, they have their own brand which is about the same price as ATkins and only very slightly different in make up.

Hi!, Mjay, I don't think we have GNC stores here in SA - I may be wrong though!

I have made a few more of the recipes from the book and, as it was my hubby's birthday yesterday, was able to make quite a good buffet - although I must say, the chocolate layer cake, although it had a lovely flavour, the texture was very dry and a bit strange!

There's a lot of use of Creme de Cacao liqueur in the recipes which is lovely (okay I had a little sip!). Although it costs around $20 a bottle, it should last for a very long time.

I'm still looking out for a cheap ice-cream maker! Anyone know anything about these machines??
