Hi Debi,

I just started the Atkins diet 3 weeks ago and from what I have been hearing from other dieters the amount of weight you lose really depends on the individual. But what you have lost rsounds good - some people lose even less.

My suggestion to you - drink a lot and i mean ALOT of water - it really helps.
I don't know what low-carb diet you are following but Dr.Atkins talks about taking vitamin supplements such as Chromium which help in the process.
Also try not to eat after 6pm - i think this has helped me alot.
Also there is another website at: http://www.atkinsfriends.com- which has helped me out a great deal.

I hope this helps.
Just stick with it - and you'll do great. Let me know how it goes.

Jas

Hi Debi,

Welcome to the board!

Do you have a lot of weight to lose or a little? What plan are you following?

If you are eating a lot of dietary fat, your ketostix will change colour as they don’t distinguish between your own fat or the dietary kind. Everyone is different, and this WOE requires tweaking to suit your own unique physiology. There is not a single answer for everyone.

Taking measurements can be more useful—and encouraging—than the scale, especially if you are weight training and gaining muscle mass. The scale will always be bouncing up and down.

Why don’t you post what you’ve been eating and we may be able to help you tweak your plan.

Don’t get discouraged !

Karen

Smile hi Debi, and welcome

Partly it depends on how much you have to lose. Our wonderful webmaster Wa'il explained it very well thus : in terms of percentage, if you are really big and trying to lose 100 lbs, a 10% loss would be 10 lbs. But if you are smaller, and trying to lose say 20 lbs, then 10% of that is only going to be 2 lbs. Another thing is, your body could be recomposing itself, meaning, you are losing fat but adding muscle. Are your clothes fitting looser, and have your measurements gone down?? You did measure yourself, right????? ..

Technically, it's not considered a stall or plateau until 4 weeks of both no weight loss on the scale AND no inches lost on the tape measure.

For more ideas click on this article, Stalls and Plateaus . Also, take a look at Hidden Carbs to see if maybe you're eating more carbs than you think.

Don't be discouraged, this will pass. Stick with it, and keep us posted on your progress ..

take care,

Doreen
