LA JOLLA, Calif., May 14 (Reuters) - Diet franchise Jenny Craig Inc. (NYSE:JC - news) on Monday reported a quarterly operating loss of $931,000 said it had hired an investment banking firm to advise the company on strategic alternatives, including a possible sale or expansion.
The company said its fiscal third-quarter operating loss compared with operating income of $2.6 million a year earlier. Revenues fell to $76.8 million from $80.8 million.
The net loss for the quarter was $477,000, or 2 cents per share, versus net income of $1.7 million, or 8 cents per share, a year ago.
Jenny Craig said it had hired Koffler & Co. to advise the company.
Shares of Jenny Craig closed up 3 cents on Friday at $1.37 on the New York Stock Exchange, off a 52-week high of $3.42 and up from a 52-week low of $1.01.
