Question Need your Help Please

Hi, I am the mom of a 17 year old daughter with insulin resistance and PCOS. She refused to take it seriously and change the way she eats. She takes her medicines, but is hooked on Starbucks and Slurpees and doesn't want to change. I was just diagnosed with diabetes and am afraid for her. Can you help me talk to her. What was your deciding factor to change your eating habits? Any one that can help would be greatly appreciate. Thank you.

Default not sure if this will help..

I'm twenty and addicted to coffee, and used to love slurpees. I'm not sure what kind of effect coffee has on her (maybe you can find better alternatives to stock the kitchen with?), but the slurpees definitely can't be good. It's unlikely that she'll just wake up one day and quit drinking them, unfortunately.

When I was a teenager I was a good student and never broke curfew, but I went against everything else my mom told me to do, even if I knew it was probably best for me. Hey, I had to rebel somehow! hehe.. I guess I just wanted to figure things out for myself (and still do!). Maybe if you sort of leave alternatives around the house without saying anything, she might "discover" them herself.

The only other thing I could suggest is maybe whipping out the blender and making some homemade fresh fruit and ice slushies. I would have taken one of those over a slurpee anyday. Sorry I'm no expert, and I don't really know what she can and can't have, but I just thought I would throw in my two cents.

Good luck!
Love and Laughter,
BabyGirl
